Abstract:

A multi-axis chuck that rotates about at least two axes. Preferably, the axes are perpendicular. The multi-axis chuck includes a first portion, second portion, and third portion. Rear sides of the first portion and the second portion have a first mating portion that mates with a second mating portion provided on the second portion and the third portion, respectively. The mating portions enable the first portion and the second portion to be rotated about the axes. Preferably, the first portion rotates about a first axis independently of the second and third portions. Rotation of the second portion about a second axis preferably also rotates the first portion about the second axis. The multi-chuck is operatively connected to a motor, controller, and sensors. A user inputs a desired position into the controller that controls the motor. The motor rotates the multi-axis chuck to the desired position.

Abstract:

A cooling system for an electrical motor or generator includes a first cooling loop, a second cooling loop, and a heat exchange system. The first cooling loop may extract heat from an iron stack and winding of the electrical motor or generator. The second cooling loop may extract heat from end turns of the stator winding, the rotor, and the bearings independently from and simultaneously to the first cooling loop. At least the first cooling loop may pass through the heat exchange system. A liquid coolant may circulate in the first cooling loop and a compressed gas, such as compressed air or compressed refrigerant in vapor form, may circulate in the second cooling loop. The cooling system and method for an electrical motor or generator may be suitable for, but not limited to, applications in the aircraft and aerospace industries, such as driving a cabin air compressor of an aircraft.

Abstract:

A chamber or vasculature of a heart may be accessed via the pericardial space of the heart. Initially, the pericardial space may be accessed via a transmyocardial approach or a subxiphoid approach. A lead or other implantable apparatus may thus be routed into the pericardial space, through myocardial tissue and into the chamber or vasculature. Abstract:

The intrapericardial lead includes a lead body having a proximal portion and a flexible, pre-curved distal end portion. The distal end portion carries at least one electrode assembly containing an electrode adapted to engage pericardial tissue. The distal end portion further carries a pre-curved flexible wire member having ends attached to spaced apart points along the distal end portion of the lead body, the flexible wire member having a normally expanded state wherein an intermediate portion of the wire member is spaced apart from the distal end portion, and a generally straightened state wherein the wire member and the distal end portion are disposed in a more parallel, adjacent relationship so as to present a small frontal area to facilitate delivery into the pericardial space. The wire member re-expands to its normal state after delivery into the percaridal space to anchor the distal end portion of the lead body relative to the pericardial tissue.

An implantable sensor is provided that includes a piezopolymer sensor element including a body having a plurality of layers of a piezopolymer, and an attachment device configured to hold the piezopolymer sensor element in direct contact with at least one of a bodily fluid and bodily tissue such that the piezopolymer sensor element is configured to bend in response to motion of the at least one of bodily fluid and bodily tissue. A pair of electrodes are attached to the piezopolymer sensor element and the electrodes are configured to collect an electrical charge that is generated within the piezopolymer sensor element due to the bending of the piezopolymer sensor element.
