Abstract:
Voice processing methods and circuits use bandpass filters and energy detectors to determine the energy in frequency channels of a voice signal. A bit array having a horizontal direction corresponding to the channels and a vertical direction corresponding to time provides a representation of the voice signal that can be stored during training and compared to other bit arrays during voice recognition. One comparison method compares horizontal lines of bit arrays using a position-weighted K factor. A segmentation process divides arrays into segments to better identify corresponding lines in arrays. Corresponding lines can also be selected in segments using an alternating top-down/bottom-up best match process. When this comparison finds a matching array, the match is confirmed if match result is significantly better than a match result for a bit array corresponding to different voice command and if vertical checking confirms the match. Thresholds indicating horizontal and vertical matching arrays and the required gap between the match results of different commands can be set according to the desired voice recognition sensitivity.

Abstract:
A spatial light modulator (SLM) module and methods of designing, manufacturing and using the same are provided. In one embodiment, the SLM module comprises a diffractive, diffractive SLM formed on a substrate, the SLM including a plurality of pixels each including a plurality of electrostatically deflectable actuators, and a driver including a number of drive channels each coupled to one of the plurality of electrostatically deflectable actuators. Each of the drive channels include at least one internal digital-to-analog converter (DAC) integrally formed on the same substrate as the SLM. In one embodiment, the DAC is a multi-slope charge integrating DAC. In other embodiments, the driver includes circuitry to test each of the drive channels, and a spare drive channel that can be switched in to replace a defective drive channel.

Abstract:
A device which prevents spillage when a water bottle is inverted for installation onto a water dispenser. The device establishes the flow of water from the water bottle into the water dispenser after a predetermined time delay from when the bottle is inverted. The device is a membrane closure which initially provides a water tight seal on the mouth of the water bottle, but which opens up to allow water to flow from the bottle after a predictable time delay. Thus, the user can slowly and carefully invert the water bottle and place it in the correct position. Three embodiments are presented: 1) a membrane seal which is folded multiple times to create an initially water tight seal, which, when the water bottle is inverted, slowly unfolds due to the hydrostatic pressure, thereby opening the seal and allowing the water to flow; 2) a membrane seal of a moisture sensitive material which is coated with a water impermeable material and which is scored in a desired rupture pattern. When the bottle is inverted, the water penetrates the membrane seal which ruptures, allowing the water to flow after a predictable time delay; 3) a composite membrane seal made of a water impermeable material which has a moisture sensitive material within it, forming a desired rupture pattern. When the bottle is inverted, the water penetrates the moisture sensitive material and weakens it so that it will rupture after a predictable time delay.
System For Reducing Noise Coupling Between Digital And Analog Circuitry
A system for reducing noise coupling in a mixed-signal IC includes a digital clock, an analog clock, and gating signal generator, and a gating circuit. The gating circuit receives a digital clock signal and the gating pulse to generate a gated digital clock signal having no pulses at a sampling edge of the analog clock signal to provide a "quiet time" for analog sampling.

Abstract:
A circuit and method for driving electrostatic microelectomechanical systems (MEMS) are provided. In one embodiment, the circuit includes a first electrode in a movable element of the MEMS and a second electrode on a surface of a substrate of the MEMS over which the movable element is suspended, and a driver electrically coupled to the first and the second electrodes. The driver supplies a voltage differential between the first and second electrodes to vary an electrostatic force between the electrodes thereby moving the movable element. The driver is configured to supply a voltage pulse having a leading edge in which a first voltage intermediate between an initial, minimum voltage and a maximum voltage is maintained for a first time before rising to the maximum voltage timed to dampen oscillations of the movable element. Other embodiments are also described.

Abstract:
A device is configured to support one or more virtual networking functions at a branch in a network. The device receives from a central control entity a command to deploy a particular virtual networking function, the command including or accompanied by a deployment file that identifies an external port at which the particular virtual networking function is accessed externally at the device. The device maps the external port to an internal port on an internal management network of the device, and stores a portmapping entry for the particular virtual networking function based on the mapping. The device sends to the central control entity a notification containing portmapping information that indicates the internal port to which the external port is mapped.
