    20020117086, Aug 29, 2002
  • Filed:
    Jan 16, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/050248
  • Inventors:
    Caijun Shi - Burlington, CA
    Yanzhong Wu - Hamilton, CA
Monte Riefler - Hamburg NY, US
  • International Classification:
    C04B038/10
  • US Classification:
    106/672000
  • Abstract:
An economical structural cellular lightweight concrete with a density of from about 45 lb/ftto about 90 lb/ftand a strength from about 1,000 psi to about 6,000 psi after 28 days of curing at room temperature and with minimal shrinkage on drying, is described. The concrete comprises cement, lightweight aggregate with a density from about 25 lb/ftto about 60 lb/ft, fiber, superplastizer, gas and/or foaming agents, and a shrinkage reducing agent. The concrete can be manufactured using facilities for conventional concrete even with a portion of Portland cement replaced by industrial by-products or recycled materials such as blast furnace slag, coal fly ash and recycled glasses. The preferred procedure for making the lightweight concrete is also described. The products made with the lightweight concrete have much better ductility and construction capabilities than conventional concrete products.
  • Train Of Highway Trailers And Method Of Making

    view source
  • US Patent:
    50404660, Aug 20, 1991
  • Filed:
    Jul 30, 1987
  • Appl. No.:
    7/079501
  • Inventors:
Harry O. Wicks - Hamburg NY
Monte P. Riefler - Hamburg NY
  • Assignee:
Railmaster System, Inc. - Elmhurst IL
  • International Classification:
    B61D 312
  • US Classification:
    105 43
  • Abstract:
Novel highway trailers can be mounted on railtruck assemblies to form a train of highway trailers, the railtruck assemblies including a conventional railtruck which supports a novel intermodal adaptor. The novel highway trailers include a forwardly extending tongue and coupling structure at the rear to which may be secured to the tongue of a following trailer and the intermodal adaptor of a railtruck assembly. The intermodal adaptor is mounted on the center plate bowl of the bolster of the railtruck. The adaptor includes locating means adapted to be received within the coupling structure of a leading highway trailer, which locating means permits the leading highway trailer and intermodal adaptor to become aligned with each other upon relative movement. The intermodal adaptor further includes securing means capable of maintaining the locating means within the coupling structure of the highway, trailer in a completely mounted position, a coupler pin, and shifting means capable of moving the coupler pin from a lower position to a raised position where it couples the forward end of a tongue of a following trailer to the rear of the leading trailer and the intermodal adaptor.
  • Concrete Block Panel

    view source
  • US Patent:
    40980405, Jul 4, 1978
  • Filed:
    Nov 9, 1976
  • Appl. No.:
    5/740095
  • Inventors:
    Monte Riefler - Hamburg NY
  • International Classification:
    E04G 2100
    E04C 102
  • US Classification:
    52125
  • Abstract:
A concrete block panel with mortarless joints in which the blocks are held together in vertical and horizontal compression by steel strapping and are reenforced by external coatings of glass fiber cement. The blocks may be insulated by urethane foam board sandwiched between the outer surface of the panel and external facing blocks. The blocks may also be used with mortar joints. The urethane foam board insulation assists in laying the blocks with either dry or mortar joints.

  • US Patent:
    40019888, Jan 11, 1977
  • Filed:
    Jan 9, 1975
  • Appl. No.:
    5/539774
  • Inventors:
    Monte Riefler - Hamburg NY
  • International Classification:
    E04G 2100
  • US Classification:
    52125
  • Abstract:
A concrete block wall panel with mortarless joints in which the blocks are held together by steel strapping and are reinforced by external coatings of glass fiber cement. The walls are handled by pick up rods extending through the panel from top to bottom. A swivel fitting is attached to the upper end of each rod and a pick up base engaging the bottom of the panel is screwed on the lower end of each rod. After the panel is set in a bed of mortar embedding the bases, the pick rods are unscrewed and the swivels are removed.
  • Railway Train Of Highway Vehicles, And Components Therefor

    view source
  • US Patent:
    48418722, Jun 27, 1989
  • Filed:
    Jun 19, 1986
  • Appl. No.:
    6/876248
  • Inventors:
Harry O. Wicks - Hamburg NY
Monte P. Riefler - Hamburg NY
  • Assignee:
Railmaster System, Inc. - Hamburg NY
  • International Classification:
    B61D 312
  • US Classification:
    105 43
  • Abstract:
An improved railway train of highway trailers. The highway trailers are interconnected to each other and their adjacent ends are supported solely by railtruck assemblies. Each trailer is provided with a portion connectible to a corresponding portion of the railtruck assembly. Each railtruck assembly includes an intermodal adapter mounted upon a transversely extending bolster of a railtruck, the assembly being essentially symmetrical about a vertically shiftable coupler pin carried by the adapter so that the railtruck assembly can be interconnected to trailers disposed to either side of the railtruck assembly. In addition, improved hydraulic shifting apparatus is provided for shifting the vertical coupler pin carried by the intermodal adapter.
  • Insulated Concrete Block Assembly And Method Of Making The Same

  • US Patent:
    45840431, Apr 22, 1986
  • Filed:
    Aug 15, 1983
  • Appl. No.:
    6/523288
  • Inventors:
    Monte Riefler - Hamburg NY
  • International Classification:
    E04G 2100
  • US Classification:
    156297
  • Abstract:
An insulated concrete block assembly which can be laid dry or with mortar joints. The assembly has a pair of standard concrete blocks adhesively bonded to opposite sides of a panel of insulating material and a flat sheet metal tie bridging the panel and having opposite ends adhesively bonded to load carrying surfaces of the blocks. The adhesive bond is stronger than the concrete, so that once made up, the assembly cannot be taken apart without breaking the concrete.
