  • Recovery Of Petroleum

    view source
  • US Patent:
    41146891, Sep 19, 1978
  • Filed:
    May 25, 1977
  • Appl. No.:
    5/800218
  • Inventors:
Newton Bradford Dismukes - Carrollton TX
  • International Classification:
    E21B 4300
    E21B 4301
  • US Classification:
    166249
  • Abstract:
Compaction of friable or unconsolidated strata containing petroleum substance is obtained by increasing the mass of material above the reservoir, vibrating various earth strata and alternately raising and lowering the fluid pressure in the reservoir to yield a maximum reduction in porosity of the reservoir matrix material and thus to expel petroleum substance therefrom. Enlargement of well bore and extension thereof as by drilling lateral wells are contemplated as is the production of solid reservoir material and recovery of other solids which may be compacted by the above steps and be slurrified and caused to flow to a well bore.
  • Tubulars For Curved Bore Holes

    view source
  • US Patent:
    44846410, Nov 27, 1984
  • Filed:
    May 21, 1981
  • Appl. No.:
    6/265997
  • Inventors:
Newton B. Dismukes - Carrollton TX
  • International Classification:
    E21B 704
  • US Classification:
    175 61
  • Abstract:
The invention provides a high strength, twist resistant tubular goods system for traversing highly deviated sections of well bores capable of conducting fluids under high pressures. The system comprises short pipe joints interconnected by unions capable of uni-directional mis-alignment. Buoyancy material is incorporated to reduce drag and minimize gouging the bore hole walls.
  • Downhole Motor Assembly

    view source
  • US Patent:
    46468560, Mar 3, 1987
  • Filed:
    Jul 18, 1985
  • Appl. No.:
    6/756817
  • Inventors:
Newton B. Dismukes - Carrollton TX
  • International Classification:
    E21B 402
  • US Classification:
    175107
  • Abstract:
A rigid, stiffened downhole motor assembly for drilling a vertical wellbore of increased straightness wherein substantially more weight can be applied to the drill bit driven by the motor without subjecting the case of the motor to those compressive and/or bending forces previously experienced by known downhole motors in similar drilling operations. The present assembly comprises a housing of heavy-walled conduit which is coupled to the lower end of a tool string. A downhole motor, e. g. a "mud" motor is positioned within the housing and is operably coupled thereto by a means which allows the weight of the housing to be transferred to the drill bit without subjecting the motor case to compressive or bending forces. Also, an annulus is provided between the housing and the case of the motor so that a greater volume of drilling fluid can be flowed through the tool string to thereby provide better cooling of the bit and better removal of cuttings from the wellbore.

  • Abstract:
Disclosed is an apparatus for installing casing and pipe in a lateral well or bore.
  • Rotary Earth Boring Tool

    view source
  • US Patent:
    44063326, Sep 27, 1983
  • Filed:
    Nov 17, 1980
  • Appl. No.:
    6/207798
  • Inventors:
Newton B. Dismukes - Carrollton TX
  • International Classification:
    E21B 400
  • US Classification:
    175107
  • Abstract:
The present invention provides a nonstalling system for advancing a boring tool in situations where the inclination of the bore hole with respect to the vertical is such that the force of gravity does not provide effective forward thrust. A hydraulically powered marine screw propeller adjacent the boring tool provides the necessary thrust for the drilling operation. Pressurized drilling fluid provides the required hydraulic energy. The characteristics of the marine screw propeller are such that it provides maximum thrust at maximum rotative speed but should the tool stall the forward thrust drops to zero preventing stalling.
  • Jib Furler

    view source
  • US Patent:
    40346943, Jul 12, 1977
  • Filed:
    Sep 5, 1975
  • Appl. No.:
    5/610851
  • Inventors:
Newton Bradford Dismukes - Carrollton TX
  • International Classification:
    B63H 904
  • US Classification:
    114106
  • Abstract:
The jib furler comprises an upper swivel system attached to a mast including a halyard sheave and a stay attachment device, a lower swivel system attached to a deck including attachment for a jib tack pendant, stay and halyard; and a halyard, luff rope and stay tensioned between the upper and lower swivels. Rotation of the lower swivel transmits a torqueing force to the upper swivel through the tensioned halyard and luff rope whereby the jib sail may be furled around the stay, luff rope and halyard without appreciable twisting of the stay. The jib is hanked directly upon the stay so that jibs may be changed without disturbing mast security which is sustained by the taut stay during sail changes.
  • Thermal Oil Recovery Method

    view source
  • US Patent:
    45236445, Jun 18, 1985
  • Filed:
    Oct 27, 1983
  • Appl. No.:
    6/546018
  • Inventors:
Newton B. Dismukes - Carrollton TX
  • International Classification:
    E21B 4324
    E21B 3600
  • US Classification:
    166302
  • Abstract:
A system for recovery of oil, particularly viscous oil, from subsurface formations penetrated by highly deviated or horizontal bore holes by circulating therethrough a heated fluid. The heated fluid is circulated through a flexible conduit which is pulled into the bore hole by thrust generating means at the forward end thereof. Power to operate the thrust generating means is also conducted through the conduit. Produced oil is returned via the conduit.
  • Liquid-Filled Collar For Tool String

    view source
  • US Patent:
    46275029, Dec 9, 1986
  • Filed:
    Jul 18, 1985
  • Appl. No.:
    6/756785
  • Inventors:
Newton B. Dismukes - Carrollton TX
  • International Classification:
    E21B 1716
  • US Classification:
    175320
  • Abstract:
A liquid-filled collar for applying weight to the nether end of a tool string which is to be used in a wellbore filled with wellbore liquid. The collar has an annulus formed between inner and outer conduits which annulus is at least partially filled with a dense liquid having a density greater than that of the wellbore liquid. The annulus is open at the top to the wellbore liquid so that the head of the wellbore liquid acts on the head of the dense liquid in the annulus to exert a force on the bottom closure of the annulus to produce a downward force greater than the upward buoyant force of the wellbore liquid. Low density liquid having a density less than the wellbore liquid can fill a portion of the annulus below the dense liquid to provide buoyancy for the collar when used in horizontal wellbores.
