An apparatus is disclosed for permitting a mobile terminal having multiple, heterogeneous network connections (e. g. , multiple wired or wireless transceivers of various types) to set up and maintain virtual connections over multiple networks to either the same or to multiple destinations. The mobile terminal can “load-share” traffic, i. e. , it can distribute segments of traffic over a full set of heterogeneous networks, significantly improving the reliability and availability of communications. In a first embodiment, a mobile terminal is configured with multiple radio frequency (RF) transceivers. Operating system software is provided for dynamically establishing and maintaining traffic flow for user applications over multiple communications paths, and for automatically adapting to variations in the networking environment, application traffic flow requirements, end user preferences, or mobility. In a second embodiment, a software-defined radio is used to implement the physical layer protocols for each desired network, eliminating the need for multiple transceivers.

Transparent Proxy Architecture For Multi-Path Data Connections
A method for forming an optimized communication connection providing enhanced performance of at least one application utilizing the communication connection is provided, the communication connection including a plurality of individual communication networks. The method includes the steps of: obtaining a set of performance requirements corresponding to the application utilizing the communication connection; obtaining real-time capacity information for each of a plurality of available channels associated with the respective individual communication networks; applying at least one policy-based management criteria to the available channels for controlling, in real-time, one or more aspects of the available channels; dynamically aggregating the individual communication networks to form the optimized communication connection, the communication connection leveraging one or more features and capabilities of at least a subset of the communication networks; and controlling real-time traffic scheduling across at least a subset of the available channels so as to adapt the communication connection to changes in network conditions and/or policy-based management criteria.
Distributing Bandwidth Capacity Of A Mobile Communication Network
In general, one aspect of the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods that include distributing bandwidth capacity among devices. The distribution includes receiving communications from devices that result from presentations made through user interfaces of the devices, each of the received communications including information about the presentation and the identity of the device. The distribution also includes determining a match between the identity of the device and stored information about devices. As a result of the match, the distribution includes sending a communication to the device that associates a possible distribution of an amount of bandwidth capacity with an event that may occur on the device as a result of a subsequent presentation. The distribution includes receiving a communication indicating that the event has occurred. As a result, the distribution includes distributing the amount of bandwidth capacity for use on the device.

Abstract:
A method for implementing a transparent concurrent multiple-network communication which maintains end-to-end Internet protocol (IP) semantics and compatibility includes the steps of: providing a proxy architecture between a client device and a corresponding server device utilizing the multiple-network communication; intercepting, by the proxy architecture, communications between the client device and the server device to obtain information relating to an interaction between the client and server devices in a manner which is transparent to the client and server devices; and controlling the interaction between the client and server devices by the proxy architecture as a function of the obtained information relating to the interaction between the client and server devices.

CP Rail employees on strike to be ordered back to work
"I find the current situation unacceptable 19,000 clients are being held hostage over a work conflict between CP and the Teamsters. I believe there could have been a better way to settle, to offer at least rush-hour service in the morning and evening," said AMT president Nicolas Girard.
