Abstract:
A test signal generator at a transmitter station and a facsimile generator at a receiver station go through an acquisition and tracking process which aligns the two signals so that a logical processor can compute the frequency transfer function of the entire propagation path for use in an adaptive, concurrently sent communication signal. The frequency transfer function is conveyed back to the transmit end via a control channel permitting an adaptivity function at the transmit end to influence subsequent selection of communication parameters, among which are typically transmitted data rate, selection of modulation, selection of forward error correcting coding, and selection of frequency band for transmission. The same measurement is conveyed to an adaptivity function at the receive end for use in the communications receiver to select demodulator variables such as gain control, and equalization of amplitude and phase, versus frequency. The adaptivity function also permits interspersing of reverse-direction communications over the same frequency bands in a time-share mode between forward-direction and reverse-direction communication with the measurement signals having to be transmitted in only one direction.

Abstract:
A test signal generator at a transmitter station and a facsimile generator at a receiver station go through an acquisition and tracking process which aligns the two signals, removing errors in the time base of generation, the frequency offset of generation and the time of arrival, so that a logical processor can compute the frequency transfer function of the entire propagation path for use in an adaptive, concurrently sent communication signal. Abstract:
Multiple antenna wireless communication systems require accurate knowledge of the transfer function between all paths. This invention discloses a system wherein a test signal generator at a transmitter station and a facsimile generator at a receiver station go through an acquisition and tracking process which aligns the two signals, removing errors in the time base of generation, the frequency offset of generation and the time of arrival, so that a logical processor can compute the frequency transfer function of propagation pathways between the multiple input and multiple output antennas. In turn, these channel measurements are used in an adaptive, concurrently sent communication signal. The frequency transfer functions are conveyed back to the transmit end via a control channel permitting an adaptivity function at the transmit end to influence subsequent selection of communication parameters, among which are typically transmitted data rate, selection of modulation, selection of forward error correcting coding, and selection of frequency band for transmission. The same measurement is conveyed to an adaptivity function at the receive end for use in the communications receiver to select signal combining variables such as gain control, and equalization of amplitude and phase, versus frequency. An alternate embodiment invention of this type is described which is additionally useful for mobile multiple antenna communications channels.

Abstract:
Described is a miniaturized satellite transceiver for communicating with a Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite and a communications satellite. The miniaturized satellite transceiver includes an integrated GPS receiver configured to receive communications from the GPS satellite, a satellite modem configured to transmit and receive communications from the communications satellite, and an operating system. The miniaturized satellite transceiver is installable in a hand-held device, a mobile satellite transceiver system, or an in-flight transceiver and locator system.

A method for detecting multi-user signals including conducting a first energy burst detection detecting a first plurality of user signals as a first energy burst, attempting to decode a user signal from the first plurality of signals within the first energy burst, cancelling out a first user signal from the first energy burst if the first user signal is successfully decoded from the first energy burst, determining a second user signal to be discarded if the second user signal is not successfully decoded from the first energy burst, conducting a second energy burst detection detecting a second plurality of signals as a second burst, and iteratively cancelling out the first user signal successfully decoded from the first energy burst from the second energy burst, wherein the second energy burst detection is conducted when all user signals within the first energy burst are either cancelled out or determined to be discarded.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for performing complex mathematical calculations. The apparatus includes a multicore processor where the cores are connected into a net with the processors on the periphery primarily dedicated to input/output functions and distribution of tasks to the central processors -of the net. The central processors -perform calculations substantially simultaneously, far exceeding the speed of conventional processors. The method , which may be implemented by an instruction set to the processor nodes, informs the processor nodes how to divide the work and conduct the calculations. The method includes steps dividing the data into subsets directing the subsets to predetermined nodes , performing the calculations and outputting the results.
Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Correlation Method For A Multiprocessor Array
A method and apparatus for correlation of a received DSSS signal with a PN sequence, thus significantly reducing the processing time and operating power needed to acquire phase information for DSSS de-spreading and demodulation. The apparatus utilizes a multiprocessor array In one embodiment, multiple processors are located on a single-die connected by single drop busses to form low-operating-power apparatus. The method provides for fast sequential correlation of a received digital signal. In an alternate embodiment, the present invention is a single-die, low-operating-power apparatus and method for fast parallel correlation of a received digital signal. In yet another alternate embodiment, the present invention is a single-die, low-operating-power apparatus and method for fast correlation of a received digital signal using a hybrid of parallel and sequential methods.
