The wireless modem may connect to a network via a network service provider account held by a retail store or other venue at which the cash recycler is located. Additionally or alternatively, the wireless modem may connect via a network access account held by the financial institution with which the cash recycler is communicating. The wireless modem may include various settings that may be configured and adjusted via the user interface of the cash recycler.

    A method, system, computer program product, and apparatus, or a combination of the foregoing for remotely connecting to an Intelligent Cash Recycler. A user connects to any Intelligent Cash Recycler tied into the system in order to remotely access, monitor, communicate, update, trouble-shoot, perform maintenance on, and settle accounts of the remotely located Intelligent Cash Recyclers. Incident reports are created in real-time to indicate when there is an issue with a particular Intelligent Cash Recycler. The system routes the incident reports to the appropriate groups, so that the groups may address the incident reports and resolve the problem. Specifically, a group may, for example, resolve some incidents by making changes to the remotely located cash recycler configuration settings, pushing new files to the recycler, or updating the software or firmware associated with the remotely located cash recycler.

    Methods and devices provide robbery functionality in a cash handling device. A user attempting to withdraw money from a recycler may be identified. The user may indicate a problem, such as a robbery attempt. An alarm code may be sent from the recycler and may provide notification of the robbery attempt. A normal welcome screen may be displayed to the user so that the robber is not alerted of the robbery notification. The user may request a withdrawal of money and may identify a quantity of money to be withdrawn. Money may be dispensed if the withdrawal request is less than a robbery limit. If the request exceeds the limit, options may include: notice that a limit has been exceeded or that the requested funds are unavailable, dispensing amount(s) up to the robbery limit, and/or displaying error message(s). The machine may be precluded from use until the out of service condition is reset.

    Methods and devices provide for lock interaction with software in order to facilitate access to a vault in a cash handling device and display of a transportation utility interface. A user may access an electromechanical lock on a cash handling device. The lock may determine whether the user is authorized. If unlocked, access may be provided to a transportation utility interface and to a vault that may contain currency in order to facilitate removal and transportation of the currency. If desired, stackers in the cash handling device may automatically transfer the currency to a container in the vault after the lock is unlocked. The vault may be subsequently closed, access to the transportation utility interface may be disabled, and the lock may be re-locked.
