Abstract:

An imaging system includes a scanning reflector that sweeps through a periodic scan pattern to redirect millimeter wave energy from a target object to a detector. The imaging system may include one or more millimeter wave lenses that gather and focus the millimeter wave energy from the target object onto the reflector or the detector. The detector is super-cooled to increases sensitivity, so that the imaging system does not require an illumination source. For each location on the target object, the detector monitors the intensity of the millimeter wave energy and an electronic controller builds a memory map from the detector data. Because different materials block millimeter wave energy differently, the detector data, and thus the memory map corresponds to the structure of the target object. In one embodiment, the scanning reflector is a resonant scanner. The scanner may be a microelectromechanical (MEMs) or mesomechanical scanner.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to a dataform reading module. At least one photosensor provides a plurality of different zones for image capture. A lens focuses a respective image representing a portion of a dataform taken along a target line onto a respective one of the plurality of different zones. At least two mirrors are configured to focus an image of adjacent and partially overlapping portions of the dataform taken along the target line onto the lens. An illuminating device illuminates the dataform.

An electro-thermal ice protection system for an airfoil comprises: a metal foil heater including an integral parting strip, the metal foil heater configurable to cover at least a portion of a leading edge of the airfoil with the integral parting strip disposed along an air-stagnation zone of the leading edge; and a controller coupled electrically to the metal foil heater for controlling electrical energy from a power source to the metal foil of the heater in accordance with a pulse duty-cycle and for controlling power to the parting strip of the heater to maintain the air-stagnation zone virtually free of ice formation. A method of making an exemplary metal foil heater for use in ice protection of an airfoil comprises the steps of: preparing a sheet of Titanium foil in a rectangular shape having a length substantially greater than a width thereof for covering at least a portion of the leading edge of the airfoil; applying a layer of Nickel material over an area along each width edge of the Titanium foil; applying a layer of Copper material over the Nickel layer along each width edge of the Titanium foil; and attaching conductor wires to the Copper layers at each width edge.

The dataform reader further includes processing circuitry within the housing for selecting, from among the plurality of images, an image satisfying a predefined focus criteria. The image is selected based upon an evaluation of a sample from each of the images. The selected image may then be decoded.

An optical reader for reading optical indicia which includes an imaging element for forming an image of the optical indicia at an image plane. The optical reader further includes an aperture positioned at the image plane and having a width smaller than the width of a smallest element in the image to be discerned by the optical reader, the aperture permitting illumination from a portion of the image to impinge upon a photodetector. Abstract:

An optical reader for reading optical indicia includes an imaging element for forming an image of the optical indicia; a photodetector element having an aperture with a width smaller than the width of a smallest element in the image to be discerned by the optical reader; and optical means for causing the image to be swept past the aperture to produce an output of the photodetector indicative of the optical indicia. The optical reader also may include an optical element which varies an image distance between the imaging element and the photodetector with respect to time to correspondingly vary an object distance at which the optical indicia is located from the imaging element in order that the image is focused at the image plane.
