Abstract:

The present invention provides an integrated controller to process both optical reads and optical writes of multiple optical media. The integrated controller includes a host interface; a buffer manager coupled to the host interface; an embedded memory coupled to the buffer manager; an integrated encoding/decoding engine coupled to the buffer manager; a data channel interface coupled to the integrated encoding/decoding engine; and an integrated servo/recording processor coupled to the integrated encoding/decoding engine and the data channel interface, where the integrated servo/recording processor includes a set of write strategies. The present invention provides a controller which integrates the functionality of the conventional controllers into an integrated processor. With the controller in accordance with the present invention, a single drive may be provided which can read CD-based and DVD-based formats, read and write to Write Once Media, and read and write to Rewritable Media. The architecture of the controller is designed such that its manufacture is cost effective and a performance penalty for the host does not occur.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a method and system for window realignment to correct the data frame boundaries of data from an optical media. The present invention includes: determining if a sync pattern for a data frame is within a sync window; opening an extended sync window, if the sync pattern for the data frame is not within the sync window; determining if the sync pattern for the data frame is within the extended sync window; and realigning the sync window to the sync pattern in the extended sync window, if the sync pattern is within the extended sync window. The present invention utilizes an extended sync window to realign the sync window when the number of missing sync patterns in a data stream has exceeded a threshold number. In the preferred embodiment, the width of the extended sync window and the threshold number are programmable. In this manner, the sync window can be realigned before shifting of the data renders the data uncorrectable.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a method and system for providing a header search in a data read from an optical medium. The method includes opening a search window with a size greater than one sector; finding at least one valid header within the search window; and locating a target sector based upon the at least one valid header. The size of the window is programmable. Optionally, more than one valid header can be required to be found before they are used as the reference, for the purpose of increasing the reliability of the reference. The number of required valid headers is also programmable. Buffering of the data then begins at the target sector found based on the reference. The header of this target sector is then checked for validity. If the header is not the target, then the header search may be restarted without the need to redo the data read. The header search scheme is applicable for multiple optical data formats.

Abstract:

The present invention provides an improved method and system for link detection and handling. The method includes detecting one of the plurality of link sectors; generating an interrupt signal; determining a buffer method selection; buffering the plurality of data sectors only, if a link skip buffer method is selected; and buffering the plurality of data sectors and the plurality of link sectors, except for a link block, and allocating a sector in a buffer for the link block, if a link buffer method is selected. The present invention provides a hardware approach to link sector detection and handling. Instead of passing the data to a system software prior to link sector detection, the method and system in accordance with the present invention performs the link sector detection in the controller hardware. When the controller detects the link sectors, it automatically either skips or buffers the link sectors depending upon the configuration of the controller. By performing the link sector detection in hardware, significant processing time is saved.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a method and system for calibration of writing to an optical medium. The method includes: sampling marks in a calibration area of the optical medium; and converting the sampled marks into a digital format utilizing an ADC, the ADC also utilized by a servo control. The present invention provides a controller with an integrated servo and recording processor which allows a single ADC to be used for converting sample marks used in calibrating the writing to an optical media. No separate subsystem for converting sample marks is thus necessary. Less components are required, reducing the cost of manufacturing the controller. With less components, the risk of component failure is reduced as well.

Abstract:

An airflow control tailgate to be substituted for the original solid tailgate that is typically found at the rear of the body of a pick-up truck to enclose the flat bed thereof. The tailgate includes a plurality of motor controlled panels that are rotated on a respective plurality of pivot rods between a closed orientation in side-by-side alignment with one another to an open orientation in spaced, parallel alignment with one another by which to control the stream of air rushing over the cab and across the bed when the truck is in motion. A motor is coupled to the pivot rods by way of a clutch assembly and a gear rack, such that a rotation of the motor causes a linear displacement of the gear rack and a corresponding rotation of the pivot rods for rotating the panels between the closed and open orientations. One of the pivot rods carries a blocking dog which is rotated with the pivot rod relative to a blocking tab that projects from a handle in order to engage the blocking tab and thereby prevent the handle from being manipulated so that the tailgate cannot be rotated from the raised position to the lowered position when the panels are in the open orientation.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a method and system for servo control in an optical drive. The method includes initiating an execution of a multiplier and accumulator controller (MAC) by a processor; and automatically calculating a transfer function by the MAC based upon a sample servo data. The present invention provides a servo control system which utilizes a MAC which is directly linked to the sample servo data. When a processor commands the MAC to execute, the MAC receives the sample servo directly from an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC); retrieves the corresponding accumulated sample servo data from a memory; calculates the transfer function; and stores the results back into the memory. The processor then accesses the memory to retrieve the result. Because the MAC is able to calculate the transfer function with minimal intervention from the processor, significant processing resources and time are saved.

Abstract:

Systems and methods are provided for dispensing sheets of material (e.g. tissues, wipes, towels, etc.) from a container or other suitable receptacle for storing the sheets of material for dispensing therefrom. The dispenser systems are integrated with storage and/or organizer, which are configured to be above, below, behind, or in front of a dispenser without affect-ing the dispensing function of the system. The dispensers can be used in a vertical position, capable of dispensing a sheet in a downward or upward direction when mounted on a wall, for example, or in a horizontal position, cap-able of dispensing a sheet sideways and/or popup direction. One of the advantages of these dispensers is that it allows a prior art flat top tissue box for use in a vertical position, i.e., standing up on its end, thereby taking even less horizontal space than the cubic tissue box. The invention frees up the dispensing wall, which contains an opening for sheet dispensing, by disposing onto the dispenser systems a peripheral component adjacent to the dispensing wall, configured to provide aid to both dispensing and non-dispensing uses, such as for storage and organizer, for example as a stand for iPad, visual display, promotional, aromatics releaser—all configured next to, over or above the dispensing wall.The invention also provides a dispenser system having a more aesthetic look, for example, a system in which the view of the waiting sheet is masked, removing the cluttering look of the pop-up tissues as seen with the prior art tissue boxes or tissue box covers. The dispenser systems are also made to present as a piece of art suitable for home decoration, including a minimalist dispenser and a sculptural piece of art. The invention also provides a dispenser system which maintains sheets in a condition essentially free of dust by limiting the exposure of the opening and the waiting sheet to the exterior. The dispenser systems make use of novel elements including the use of at least peripheral component, gliders, spacers, masking, and/or pod in providing novel sheet dispensers which are integrated with non-dispensing functions. The dispenser systems of the invention include but are not limited to boxes, for example, tissue box, containers, box covers, for example, tissue box covers.
