Abstract:

A flange joint that fully isolates the steel sidewall from contact with water entering the skimmer duct of an aboveground pool is provided by the use of a pair of mating flanges fitted to opposite sides of the sidewall. The flanges are comprised of two closely interfitting elements sealed together directly to the metal sidewall by a water-proof adhesive. The flanges include overlapping collars within the sidewall opening which completely seal off and isolate water entering the skimmer duct to prevent any possibility of contact with the metal pool sidewall. Thus, water damage to the pool sidewall is eliminated.

Abstract:

This invention is directed to prodrugs of rho kinase (ROCK) inhibitors. These prodrugs are in general the ester or the amide derivatives of the parent compounds. These prodrugs are often weak inhibitors of ROCK, but their parent compounds have good activities. Upon instillation into the eyes, the ester or the amide group of these prodrugs is rapidly hydrolyzed into alcohol, amine, or acid, and the prodrugs are converted into the active base compounds. The prodrugs of ROCK inhibitors provide several advantages such as delivery of higher concentrations of the active species into the target site and reduction of ocular discomfort. The invention is also directed to a method of treating ophthalmic diseases such as glaucoma, allergic conjunctivitis, macular edema, macular degeneration, and blepharitis, by administering an effective amount of a ROCK prodrug compound of Formula I to the eyes of the patient in need of.

Abstract:

A group of modular planar structural foam sections are laid on the ground directly underneath the liner of an above-ground pool. The foam panels are cut so that they fit tightly side-by-side covering all areas within the frame. The joints between the panels are then filled by caulking and taped over to smooth the top surface of the joints. The result is an improved pool underlayment system which provides many advantages, including cushioning of swimmer impact to help prevent shallow diving injuries.

Abstract:

The present invention features an improvement in the construction and manufacturing of small peripheral cartridges which plug into exterior slots of computer systems such as PCMCIA cards. The metal cover of a snap-together PCMCIA card is typically tack welded at its seams An inexpensive and highly accurate welding technique is presented for performing this welding operation. The inventive welding technique may be used without risk of damage to highly sensitive electronic components. The lap joint seam formed using the techniques exhibits the strength and stiffness characteristics that allow the size of welded seams to be minimized thereby also reducing the risk of burn-through or other damage to the cards during manufacturing.

Abstract:

The top and bottom parts of a one-piece cover of a PCMCIA card are snapped together to form lap-joint seams which are welded together with a laser, under argon gas. Only a few small tack welds are required to substantially increases the mechanical strength and moisture resistance and to eliminate the risk of accidentally opening the card. The operation can be done at a high rate with minimal cost. Also, an internal frame may be made much narrower to allow more card area, while still meeting structural requirements for PCMCIA cards. The weld penetrates fully through the first layer of the seam and only partially through a second layer. During welding a fixture holds the seams in reasonably precise position and tightly closed so the seams are much tighter after welding than when the card is only snap closed. The precise positioning of the seams also allows the size of the weld to be minimized which reduces the risk of burn through which may damage electronic components enclosed within the card during welding. The card is plugged into an externally accessible slot in a computer system during operation.
