Abstract:

A personal alarm is provided which comprises a flexible card adapted to be carried by a user. The personal alarm includes a power source, a transmitter, and an activation component that is activated in response to bending or folding of the personal alarm. The activation component is coupled to the transmitter. In this manner, bending or folding of the personal alarm will activate the transmitter and the signal from the transmitter will be transmitted to activate an alarm.

Abstract:

A personal alarm system is provided that employs two different radio frequency subsystems to maximize the probability that the alarm message will reach its destination. The personal alarm sends its alarm message over a dedicated and unshared RF channel to minimize problems of RF interference and obstructed signal paths. The alarm message is then delivered to its destination over a separate spread spectrum, redundant and self healing communications network.

The digital communicator is coupled to a cellular transceiver having a programmed keyboard, an audio input and an audio output. The digital communicator has an audio output and an interrogation input. The digital communicator's audio output is coupled to the cellular transceiver's audio input. The cellular transceiver's audio output is coupled to the digital communicator's interrogation input. The digital communicator includes a transmit enable output and a receive enable output.

Abstract:

A method for maintaining a penetration rate of a drilling operation, where the drilling operation is carried out by a drilling rig having a hammer drill apparatus. A reference penetration rate for the hammer drill bit is chosen. A starting depth of cut is computed from the reference penetration rate, the measured hammer frequency, and the drill bit parameters. The system measures the actual penetration rate of the drill bit and computes an actual depth of cut. From the actual depth of cut a target bit rotation speed is computed. The target rotation speed is compared to the actual rotation speed, and the rotation speed is adjusted up or down to set the bit rotation speed at a value that will maintain the target rotation speed, notwithstanding changes in hammer frequency or ground conditions.
