Abstract:

A device for blind retrieval of food is provided, the device having a single semi-rigid band with an opening, elastically conformable for attachment to a human thigh. A mount is disposed on the band, perpendicular to the opening. A food container having a ridge on the upper surface and a recessed surface on the lower surface, the recessed surface corresponding and conforming with said ridge of the upper surface. A connector is disposed in the recessed surface of the food container where the connector is slidably attachable to the mount of the band. The relative width between mount and the connector varies, providing a wedging or cinching effect upon sliding-attachment of the connector to the mount.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to the use of a 2,3-dihydroxyterephthalamide of the structure (I): ) ##STR1## wherein A is selected from hydrogen or an organic linking group Y attached to a solid substrate Q, R. sub. 1 is independently selected from alkyl having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, or aryl having from 6 to 14 carbon atoms, and R. sub. 2 is selected from R. sub. 1 or an organic linking group Z bonded to a solid substrate, with the proviso that structure (I) has only one linking group selected from Y or Z to a solid substrate Q, as selective chelating or sequestering to remove at least one metal ion from aqueous solution. These dihydroxy compounds are useful to remove metal ions (e. g. , Fe. sup. +3, from industrial waste water, human or mammalian blood or plasma, and the like.

Abstract:

A fluid sampling probe may include one or more features that increase the likelihood that a seal will be maintained during a sampling operation, even for sampling operations in unconsolidated formations. This may reduce contamination in formation fluid samples that are obtained during sampling operations. The fluid sampling probe may include a reinforcement ring configured to extend into a geological formation beyond an elastomer portion of the fluid sampling probe, which may support the geological formation and prevent a failure of the formation during sampling operations. The fluid sampling probe may also include a stop sleeve to prevent overextension that could otherwise cause the geological formation to collapse. In addition, the fluid sampling probe may include a relatively wider sealing elastomer that may decrease in height monotonically radially from the center of the fluid sampling probe.
