    A method of providing safety and maintenance vehicular service includes the steps: capturing information indicative of a vehicle status parameter electronically by means of a vehicle monitoring system; transmitting captured information through at least one vehicle connectivity system; transmitting captured information from the vehicle connectivity system to at least one portable device such as a cell phone and/or GPS unit; activating the portable device; activating analytical software utilized by the portable device; analyzing the captured information by the analytical software of the portable device; and conveying by sensory means useful processed information based upon captured information analysis to a user located within the vehicle. Advance communication of the processed information (e.g. identifying the service required) to at least one vehicle service provider externally located to the vehicle can be initiated and advance preparation of a job order and payment may be concluded online to expedite the repair procedure.

    Estimating a load bearing on a vehicle tire includes an inflation pressure measuring sensor for measuring tire inflation pressure and generating a measured tire inflation pressure signal; a deformation measuring sensor mounted in a tire region of the vehicle tire, the deformation measuring sensor in the form of a piezoelectric bending sensor generating a deformation signal estimating a length of a tire contact patch length as the senor rolls through a tire footprint. Tire rolling speed is estimated from the deformation signal and a peak to peak amplitude variation within the deformation signal is detected and measured. An artificial neural network receives the tire rolling speed estimation, the contact patch length estimation, the amplitude variation within the deformation signal, and the measured inflation pressure of the tire. The artificial neural network adaptively interprets the input data and generates an output load estimation based thereon.

    A system and method of estimating a load bearing on a vehicle tire includes an inflation pressure measuring sensor attached to the tire for measuring a tire cavity inflation pressure level; and one or more piezofilm deformation measuring sensors mounted to one or both of the tire sidewalls. The deformation measuring sensor generates within the tire footprint a deformation signal having signal power level indicative of a level of sidewall deformation within the footprint contact patch. Power-to-load maps adjusted for tire inflation pressure are generated and stored for the tire, the maps correlating a range of load levels to a range of signal power levels whereby operatively enabling a load level to be identified for each signal power level on an inflation pressure adjusted basis.

    An anti-skid brake control system (9) for a wheeled vehicle has a conventional continuous source of pressurized hydraulic fluid, a hydraulically actuated wheel rotation braking device which responds via a wheel brake valve (11) to applied hydraulic pressure to apply a braking force to a wheel of the vehicle, and an operator actuatable control (10, 12, 39) for varying the supply of hydraulic pressure to the wheel rotation braking device. The system is responsive directly to the operator actuatable control (10, 12, 39) for determining the deceleration (14) currently commanded by the operator and further dynamically determines a maximum permissible wheel deceleration (47) at a given time. The operator controlled supply of hydraulic pressure to the braking device is overridden in the event that the deceleration (14) currently commanded by the operator exceeds the maximum permissible wheel deceleration. Maximum permissible wheel deceleration is dynamically determined by measuring the angular velocity (13) of the wheel, calculating the angular deceleration (51) of the wheel from the measured angular velocity (13), determining a maximum angular deceleration value (47) based on the measured angular velocity (13), determining the difference (53) between the calculated angular deceleration and the determined maximum angular deceleration, and modifying the determined maximum angular deceleration by a fraction of the determined difference (55) only if the determined maximum angular deceleration (47) is greater than the calculated angular deceleration (51).

    A sensor retaining system for a vehicle tire is provided. The tire includes a pair of sidewalls extending from a respective bead area to a tread, which is formed with a plurality of tread elements. A sensor unit is mounted to the tire and includes a pair of electrical contacts. A tread wear sensor extends into one of the tread elements and includes a wire. The wire includes proximal ends, each one of which contacts a sensor unit electrical contact to create an electrical circuit. A flexible container is mounted to an innerliner of the tire. A cup includes a base and a sidewall that cooperate to form a cavity, and a bottom of the tread wear sensor and the sensor unit are received in the cavity. The cup maintains a connection between the electrical contacts and the wire proximal ends, and is disposed in the flexible container.

    An integrated tread wear sensor and tire pressure monitoring system sensor unit container for a tire includes a tread wear sensor plug and a sensor container. The tread wear sensor plug includes a cylindrical projection extending through an opening formed in a selected tread element of the tire. A flange extends outwardly from the projection and includes a contact surface that is mounted to an innerliner of the tire. A conductive wire is disposed in the tread wear sensor plug and includes proximal ends disposed in the flange and a distal end disposed near a radially outer surface of the projection. The sensor container includes a wall extending radially from the flange of the tread wear sensor plug and terminating in a lip. A container cavity is defined by the flange, the wall, and the lip, and receives a tire pressure monitoring system sensor.

    A tire sensor container system is provided. A tire includes a carcass toroidally extending from a first bead area to a second bead area, and an innerliner formed on an inner surface of the carcass. The tire sensor container system includes a tire pressure monitoring system sensor, which in turn includes a rigid housing that is formed with an oval shape. A flexible container is mounted to the innerliner. The container includes a base and a wall extending radially outwardly from the base, and the wall terminates in a lip. The container wall is formed with an oval shape that cooperates with the shape of the tire pressure monitoring sensor housing. A cavity is defined by the base, the wall, and the lip, and cavity receives and secures the tire pressure monitoring system sensor.
