Abstract:

A method and apparatus is disclosed for initiating execution of selected application processors in a clustered multiprocessor system without disrupting the addressing mode of the processors. In one embodiment, this is accomplished by initializing the processors in a conventional way, setting the addressing mode, and then leaving each of the processors in an active mode spinning on a designated Startup Address Location. To start an application processor, the OS simply write a target processor ID and a desired start-up address into the Startup Address Location. The application processor with the matching processor ID reads the Startup Address Location, jumps to the address specified in the Start-Up Address code section, and begins execution at that location. In another embodiment, a processor is provided that does not switch addressing modes when switched from a halt state.

Abstract:

An inventive protocol for communicating between a management processor and host processors allows for the cooperative management of resources among host processors within a partition and also among a set of partitions in a computer system, wherein each partition may function under an instantiation of an operating system with a group of host processors. The protocol employs a message passing system using mailbox pairs in fixed but moveable or relocatable locations within the computer system shared memory. The messages share a format having specific codes or descriptors that act as codes for coordination of message interpretation. These codes include at least a validity flag and a sequence enumerator, and in a response message of a request/response message pair, a status indicator. Additionally, routing codes and function codes and code modifiers may be provided. Specific implementation details and messages are described to enable the smooth functioning of complex multiprocessor systems.

An ice thickness measurement system for determining thicknesses of an ice sheet such as an ice rink that is positioned on a solid or granular substrate. Abstract:

In general, techniques for performing decentralized hardware partitioning within a multiprocessing computing system are described herein. More specifically, the multiprocessing computing system comprises first and second independent computing cells, where the first cell comprises a first processor that calculates a partition identifier. The partition identifier uniquely identifies a partition to which the first cell belongs. The first cell also comprises a second processor that establishes the partition within the multiprocessing computing system based on the partition identifier, and executes a single operating system across the partition. In the event the established partition successfully includes the first and second cells, the first and second cells execute the single operating system across the partition. Because the cells themselves perform the partitioning process, scalability may be achieved more easily. Moreover, the overall cost of the system may be reduced because a dedicated processor may no longer be required to perform partitioning.

Abstract:

Systems and methods described herein use software adapters to provide integrated information technology service management (ITSM) for cloud resources. Software adapters in the cloud resources convert data format types of an input parameter received at a first software application in a backend computing device. An ITSM function of a second software application provides management for the cloud resources. The input parameter in a first data format type is converted by the software adapter to a second data format type, the second data format type supported by a second software application. The ITSM function of the second software application is executed using the input parameter in the second data format type, thereby providing an output of the ITSM function, the output including information and executable instructions for management of the cloud resources.

Disclosed herein is a method and a system for data storage and retrieval that is agnostic to the database models of any of the databases in embodiments of the common infrastructure. Data may be stored via one database, according to a corresponding model, and then stored such that the data may be retrieved by a second database with a different database model. The data is stored in key-value pairs, and is thus not stored according to any database model.
