Abstract:The invention is directed to techniques for suppressing the voice of a user of an audio electronic device, such as a mobile phone, from being heard by an unintended listener. In one arrangement, the invention includes an input microphone, an electronics module, and a suppression speaker. The user speaks into the input microphone, and the electronics module generates an antivoice signal from a voice signal received from the input microphone. The suppression speaker outputs an antivoice output that combines with the voice of the user to form a voice suppression zone next to the speaker. The user thus can carry on his or her conversation in private as long as the unintended listener is within the voice suppression zone. Alternately, the user can avoid distracting other users of similar devices nearby, such as in a crowded office environment with many individuals using telephones at the same time. In another arrangement, the invention includes multiple suppression speakers that can be oriented in different directions to provide one or more voice suppression zones.

Abstract:A technique dynamically increases the granularity of prefix control in a computer network. According to the novel technique, a routing table is populated with one or more reachable prefixes, e. g. , learned or configured prefixes, and performance characteristics (e. g. , bandwidth, cost, delay, etc. ) of the prefixes are monitored. Upon determining that a need exists for more granular prefix control (i. e. , smaller prefixes), one or more boundaries may be determined upon which to divide one or more of the prefixes based on the monitored characteristics and/or need. Once the one or more boundaries are determined, the one or more prefixes may be “split” accordingly, e. g. , by injecting more specific prefixes into the routing table, thus providing more granular prefix control (i. e. , by controlling the split prefixes).

Abstract:A technique performs route optimization of services provided by one or more service providers (SPs) for communication links that are combined in a computer network. According to the novel technique, performance characteristics and statistics (“link data”) for two or more combined links are merged to form link data for a single “virtual combined link. ” Route optimization techniques (e. g. , priority-based route optimization) may then be applied to one or more virtual combined links based on the combined link data, in addition to link data for zero or more conventional single links (physical or virtual). Illustratively, a route optimization technique may be used in accordance with the present invention to efficiently and accurately minimize costs associated with services provided by a plurality of SPs, wherein each SP charges for utilization of its service based on a tiered pricing structure. The tiered pricing structure comprises one or more tiers, wherein each tier correlates to an amount of service provided by the SP and an associated cost.

Abstract:A ribbon-type fusible element is subdivided by equidistant points of equally reduced cross-section into a plurality of serially connected fusible element sections. These include first angularly bent fusible element sections comprising two half-sections, second fusible element sections being planar and arranged in spaced relation from the first fusible element sections, a planar support for the second fusible element sections; and third fusible element sections which are angularly bent and conductively interconnect the first and the second fusible element sections. The above planar support includes a portion that extends in a direction longitudinally of the fusible element and transverse arms that are in registry with the second fusible element sections. Fastener means project through said transverse arms and said second fusible element sections. Abstract:In fuses embodying this invention each of the terminal elements has a port for the passage of fluid through the casing of the fuse during normal operation thereof, i. e. while the fuse is carrying current. A tubular fusible element conductively interconnects said port in each of said terminal elements. The fuse further includes a toroidal body of quartz sand filling the space between said casing and said tubular fusible element. The fusible element has perforations covered by annular structures of electric insulating material precluding said quartz sand from penetrating into said tubular fusible element during the normal operation of said fuse. The fuse is further provided with a pair of check valves which open during normal operation of said fuse and then allow the flow of fluid through said tubular fusible element and close on occurrence of a build-up of a predetermined amount of pressure inside of said tubular fusible element and then inhibit said flow of fluid.
