Abstract:

The aminoglycoside and aminoglycotide N. sup. 4 -(2,3,5-tri-O-acetyl-. beta. -D-ribofuranosyl)pyrimido[4,5-d]pyrimidine-4,8- diamine and N. sup. 4 -(5-O-phosphono-. beta. -D-ribofuranosyl-pyrimido[4,5-d]pyrimidine-4,8-diami ne exhibit antiviral activity as well as cytotoxic activity against the L1210 and mammary 16/C tumor cell lines. An improved method for their production involves the production of a sylilated intermediate and reaction of the intermediate with tetra-O-acetyl-. beta. -D-ribofuranose in the presence of the specific catalyst trimethylsilyltrifluoromethanesulfonate.
