Abstract:

A resonator is provided comprising a conductive element, and a closed-slot in the conductive element, where the length of the closed slot dictates the resonating properties of the resonator. The closed slot generally confines the electromagnetic field resonated by the resonator in a direction perpendicular to a plane of the resonator, providing greater flexibility in the placement of the closed-slot resonator within the filter housing. Further, where three-dimensional resonators are used, compact resonator configuration such as spiral resonator configurations may be securely mounted within the filter without incurring severe filter losses due to the mounting mechanism, allowing filters designed with closed-slot resonators to be more compact in size than filters designed with prior art three-dimensional resonator configurations.

Abstract:

An adjustable coupler for adjusting coupling between resonant elements of a filter includes an adjustment mechanism rotatively mounted to a filter housing and an isolation element fixed to the adjustment mechanism and disposed within the filter housing. The adjustable coupler further includes a conductive element having ends proximate resonant element of the filter. When the adjustment element is rotated with respect to the housing, the proximity of the ends of the conductive element to the resonant elements changes, thereby altering the coupling between the resonant elements.

Abstract:

A resonant structure and filter include a resonant element mounted to the cover of a housing. A transmission line passes through the cover and is connected to a coupling loop. The coupling loop is located adjacent the resonator and is connected to ground. A coupling tuner is attached to the housing and includes a post which is movably attached to the housing. The tuner extends between the coupling loop and the resonator, and may be adjusted to change the electromagnetic coupling.
