Abstract:
Various implementations provide filtering for pictures. Several such implementations attempt to reduce artifacts caused by over-filtering in a decoding loop. Certain of these implementations provide multiple loop filters, and select a loop filter based on the result of a deblocking filter. One particular implementation applies a first filter to a picture to produce a filtered picture. A second filter is selected based on a difference between a value of a particular pixel in the filtered picture and a value of a corresponding pixel in the picture. The second filter is applied to the particular pixel in the filtered picture. In another implementation, a signal or signal structure includes an indication of the second filter, an encoding of at least a portion of a picture, and an encoding of at least a portion of a subsequent picture that has been encoded based on the output of the second filter above.

An encoder receives one or more input pictures of enhanced dynamic range (EDR) to be encoded in a coded bit stream comprising a base layer and one or more enhancement layer. The encoder comprises a base layer quantizer (BLQ) and an enhancement layer quantizer (ELQ) and selects parameters of the BLQ and the ELQ by a joint BLQ-ELQ adaptation method which given a plurality of candidate sets of parameters for the BLQ, for each candidate set, computes a joint BLQ-ELQ distortion value based on a BLQ distortion function, an ELQ distortion function, and at least in part on the number of input pixels to be quantized by the ELQ. The encoder selects as the output BLQ parameter set the candidate set for which the computed joint BLQ-ELQ distortion value is the smallest. Example ELQ, BLQ, and joint BLQ-ELQ distortion functions are provided.

A method of interpreting a digit-to-digit gesture based on roll values for a wrist-wearable device is disclosed. The method includes, receiving an indication at a first point in time that a user donning the wrist-wearable device is providing a digit-to-digit gesture in which one of the user's digits touches another of the user's digits without contacting the display of the wearable device. The method further includes, in accordance with a determination that the digit-to-digit gesture is provided while data indicates that the wrist-wearable device has a first roll value, causing a target device in communication with the wearable device to perform a first input command and receiving another indication at a second point in time that is after the first point in time that the user is providing the digit-to-digit gesture again, causing the target device to perform a second input command that is distinct from the first input command.

The disclosed computer-implemented method may include (1) receiving a video with scenes, (2) creating an encoded video having an overall bitrate by (a) determining, for each of the scenes, a rate-distortion model, (b) determining, for each of the scenes, a downsampling-distortion model, (c) using the rate-distortion models of the scenes to determine, for each of the scenes, a per-scene bitrate that satisfies the overall bitrate, (d) determining, for each of the scenes, a per-scene resolution for the scene based on the rate-distortion model of the scene and the downsampling-distortion model of the scene, and (e) creating, for each of the scenes, an encoded scene having the per-scene bitrate of the scene and the per-scene resolution of the scene, and (3) streaming the encoded video at the overall bitrate by streaming the encoded scene of one of the scenes. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.
