Abstract:

Immunoassay methods and standards are provided for determining the presence of polychlorinated biphenyl compounds, in a sample of interest: (a) extracting PCB compounds from the sample into a nonpolar solvent that will dissolve the PCB, to produce an analyte extract, (b) contacting the analyte extract with an mAB with specific reactivity towards PCB compounds under conditions suitable for the monoclonal antibody to bind to the PCBs present in the sample, (c) measuring mAB that is selectively bound to PCB compounds and congeners thereof, to provide a binding level, (d) relating the binding level of the mAB of step (c) with binding levels of the same mAB with a control composition, wherein the control composition comprises a plurality of PCB of compounds of known concentration, and then determining concentrations of PCB compounds in the sample.

Abstract:

A device for orally administering medication by inclusion of a diluent liquid with the medication ingested into the oral cavity. The dosing device in one embodiment has a mouthpiece, a first conduit means for providing a stream of liquid diluent and a second conduit means for positively injecting a liquid medication into the stream of diluent liquid. The dosing device additionally includes as a preferred feature means for supporting a solid medication within the mouthpiece for inclusion within a stream of diluent liquid. In another embodiment, the dosing device comprises a container for solid medicine which is a tubular mouthpiece having a closure cap and a radially flanged base plate for support of the mouthpiece in upright position on a support surface, and a support grid in the tube for the solid medicine. The lower end of the tubular mouthpiece is adapted to receive a drinking straw, and the lower end of the straw is inserted into a diluent liquid source whereby inhalation on the mouthpiece draws the solid medicine and diluent liquid into the oral cavity of the user.

Abstract:

The present invention provides for a kit and methods that detect certain analytes of interest potentially present in blood and bodily fluids of a living mammal. The methods and kit encompass a bioassay performed in vivo. Contact of the bioassay reagent with the analyte, if present, renders a response that can be clinically assessed visually or by reading instrumentation or by biosensor. In one embodiment, the invention may be used to detect the presence, absence, or amount of suspected analyte present in a patient test subject. The invention is particularly suited for point-of-care (POC) use, self-testing, large-scale implementation and for use with patients where limited sample volumes are available or accessible.
