William J. Janklow, former SD governor and congressman, dies at 72
Mr. Jankow also admitted that he had a reputation for driving too fast. On Jan. 23, 2004, in a Flandreau court room, a judge sentenced him to 100 days in jail for speeding through a stop sign and running over 55-year-old Randy Scott on a motorcycle.
Janklow served another two four-year terms as governor beginning in 1994. He was elected in 2002 to the U.S. House, but his career was cut short after he sped through a stop sign and killed Randy Scott of Hardwick, Minn., in an Aug. 16, 2003, accident in Moody County north of Sioux Falls.
