  • US Patent:
    45392358, Sep 3, 1985
  • Filed:
    Nov 19, 1984
  • Appl. No.:
    6/673188
  • Inventors:
Albert V. Collins - Fairview Park OH
Richard W. Asmus - Lakewood OH
  • Assignee:
Mooney Chemicals, Inc. - Cleveland OH
  • International Classification:
    B05D 118
    C09D 516
  • US Classification:
    427440
  • Abstract:
A method for treating wood with an aqueous composition having fungicidal and insecticidal properties. The aqueous composition comprises (a) at least one oil-soluble metal salt of an organic carboxylic acid having fungicidal properties wherein the metal is zinc, chromium, iron, antimony, lead, mercury or a mixture thereof, (b) at least one halopyridyl phosphate of the formula ##STR1## wherein R represents a halopyridyl group, Z represents oxygen or sulfur, and each R' is independently a lower alkoxy, amino or lower alkylamino group, (c) at least one surfactant, and (d) from about 60 to 99% of water. Such compositions penetrate into both dry and green wood rather readily, and the result is wood which is resistant to fungi and insects.

  • Filed:
    Dec 2, 1983
  • Appl. No.:
    6/557770
  • Inventors:
Albert V. Collins - Fairview Park OH
Richard W. Asmus - Lakewood OH
  • Assignee:
Mooney Chemicals, Inc. - Cleveland OH
  • International Classification:
    C09D 516
  • US Classification:
    106 1831
  • Abstract:
An aqueous composition having fungicidal and insecticidal properties is described which is useful particularly for treating wood. • Process For The Aqueous Impregnation Of Green Wood With Oil Soluble Metal Salts

    view source
  • US Patent:
    45321612, Jul 30, 1985
  • Filed:
    Apr 19, 1984
  • Appl. No.:
    6/598774
  • Inventors:
Albert V. Collins - Fairview Park OH
Richard W. Asmus - Lakewood OH
  • Assignee:
Mooney Chemicals, Inc. - Cleveland OH
  • International Classification:
    A01N 5502
    B05D 118
  • US Classification:
    427440
  • Abstract:
A process for impregnating green wood with oil-soluble metal salts is described. The method comprises (a) contacting the green wood with an aqueous system comprising (i) water, (ii) at least one oil-soluble metal salt of an organic carboxylic acid, and (iii) at least one surfactant for a period of time sufficient to enable the metal salt to penetrate into the wood, and (b) removing the wood from contact with the aqueous system. Good penetration of the metal salt into the green wood is realized by this method when conducted under vacuum, at atmospheric pressure or at elevated pressures. Preferably, the metal salt is a preservative such as a fungicide, and the aqueous system also contains other desirable components such as fire retardants, coloring agents and insecticides.

  • US Patent:
    39814122, Sep 21, 1976
  • Filed:
    Mar 29, 1971
  • Appl. No.:
    5/128804
  • Inventors:
Richard W. Asmus - Cleveland OH
  • International Classification:
    B65D 1720
  • US Classification:
    220270
  • Abstract:
Disposable container closures of low gas and vapor permeability, high-impact resistant, cleanly combustible thermoplastics fusable to the rim of container openings to seal the same but readily manually opened by integral tab positioned to commence tears along score lines promoting and utilizing the unexpected relatively low resistance of the otherwise tough materials to continued tearing once a tear is started.
