Abstract:
A finite state automaton (FSA) may be used to search a stream of input digital code data representing patterns such as text characters, for example, to identify a plurality of designated query words. When a particular one of the sought values of a character or other code element is identified in the input stream, the proper next state for the FSA is typically selected with the aid of a control table memory with multiple entries for each state. According to the invention, the portion of that memory associated with each multiple exit decision state typically consists of only a single word which contains a base state number and a group of indexing bits, one bit for each possible input code element configuration, with set bits corresponding to the multiple values being sought when the FSA is in that particular state. In response to an input code element value that represents a success, an index number is generated from that value and the set indexing bits. That index number is then combined with the base state number to produce the identity of the next success state.
Apparatus For Metering Fuel Additives To Internal Combustion Engines

Abstract:
Control apparatus is described for metering a liquid additive to be vaporized and introduced to the fuel mixture for an internal combustion engine. Improved enhancement of the combustion process is obtained by supplying the additive in accurate and reliable dependence upon the condition of operation of the engine, as represented by the pressure in the intake manifold. Such control is made possible by a pressure responsive valve having a valve member movable with low friction along the length of a narrow valve orifice of uniform width. The resulting flow is then linearly related to the movement of the valve member, and provides sensitive and accurate control even at extremely low flow rates. A complete system for combustion enhancement employing such a valve and associated control features is described. Independently adjustable springs at opposite ends of the valve member provide separate adjustment of the flow for engine operation at high and low power conditions.

Abstract:
A hydraulically actuated device for applying a test load to a bearing or the like to prove the integrity of its mounting or staking within a bore in a housing such as a gear case or the like. To accommodate limited access situations the device is constructed in a right angle configuration in which a hydraulic cylinder 21 applies axial pressure to a first thrust rod assembly which includes first thrust rod 18 through threaded spindle 22 driving a linearly translated cam 32 engaging a cam follower wheel 36 to transfer the translation to a second thrust rod assembly which includes a horizontal shaft 38 and spindle 45 within a cross-arm housing portion 11 and a tubular housing portion 17. The same second thrust direction applies the bearing loading in either of two directions depending upon the shape of the interface parts comprising interface part 57, washer 58, and interface part 60 at the extremities of the spindle 45 and its tubular housing portion 17. The interface parts can bear on the bearing under test from either side thereof with respect to the bearing mounting structural part 51.

Abstract:
The subject of this disclosure is a Finite State Automaton (FSA) used as part of a term detector employed in a digital pattern search system (searcher). In particular the invention includes various advances in the art of FSA design which make the FSA practical for pattern recognition. Specifically, these advances minimize the amount of memory which is required in each FSA in performing pattern recognition, and allow a speed capability such that the searching can be performed at the rate at which a mass storage medium can supply data. The large amount of memory required and the low speed of processing in the prior state of the art made the use of an FSA impractical for most real applications. The new advances include the following: An adaptation of the indexing means described in reference 4, which allows simple selection of the correct success transition state from a number of possible success states; The partitioning of searchable digital patterns into parts (called nibbles) to reduce the amount of memory used within an FSA; The use of various types of states to allow the detection of specific input patterns in the presence of don't-care patterns; The use of multiple FSA's to reduce the amount of memory needed in these FSA's when handling don't-care patterns; The unique design of an FSA to search for multiple sequential input patterns; The unique features of the FSA design to allow recognition of numerical ranges of values from among numerical data.

Abstract:
Herein described is an information retrieval system for identifying and retrieving recorded information from a mass storage system for use in a central processing system. The described system is an associative crosspoint processor system having an input which communicates with and receives stored information from the mass storage system (e. g. magnetic tape, magnetic or optical disk, etc. ) upon command from the central processing system. In the system a key momory stores key words which are then compared with data words stored in the mass storage system.

Abstract:
An automated program/commercial identification system that encodes and decodes an encoded data frame, which is added to an original program segment before it is broadcast. Within each encoded data frame, data is encoded to identify the original program segment and its prescribed time duration. A plurality of encoded data frames, altered by sequence codes, are repetitively generated for the duration of the encoded program segment to verify the encoded program segment's integrity. A phase-shift keyed modulation technique is used to place the encoded data frames in a notched-out section of the original program segment's audio channel, forming an encoded audio channel within the encoded program segment. Verification of the integrity of the encoded audio channel of the encoded program segment is achieved by monitoring the integrity of each encoded data frame. Additionally, the encoded program segment's video channel is verified by monitoring the integrity of the video channel's black/white or composite video levels and its sync level amplitude.
