Abstract:

Accuracy and speed of biometric identity verification are significantly improved by use of multiple simultaneous scans of biometric features of a user, such as multiple fingerprints, using multiple scanners () of smaller size than would be needed to accommodate all of the fingerprints in a single scanner (), and using multiple parallel processors (), or a single higher speed processor, to process the fingerprint data more efficiently. Obtaining biometric data from multiple user features by use of multiple scanners increases verification accuracy, but without the higher cost and slower processing speed that would be incurred if a single large scanner were to be used for improved accuracy.

Abstract:

A method for integrating duplicate checks with an existing computer system includes capturing participant biometric data from each of a plurality of participants and enrolling each of the participants in a biometric duplicate check computer system. Moreover, the method includes checking for potentially duplicate biometric enrollment data records and communicating potentially duplicate unique identifiers associated with potentially duplicate biometric enrollment data records from the biometric duplicate check computer system to the existing program computer system. Furthermore, the method includes identifying potentially duplicate enrollment data records using the potentially duplicate unique identifiers, determining whether any of the potentially duplicate enrollment data records are true duplicate enrollment data records, and deleting true duplicate data records that are not to be retained.

Abstract:

A method of managing large scale biometric data identity matching includes identifying a plurality of biometric modalities to be used in conducting identity matches, determining one of the biometric modalities to be a primary biometric modality and determining whether at least one matching algorithm is compatible with matrix entries. When the at least one matching algorithm is compatible with a matrix entry the method includes assigning a plurality of matching systems to the matrix entry. The matching systems are configured to conduct 1:1 or 1:few matching after conducting a 1:N identity matching. Furthermore, the method includes comparing a probe against enrollment data records stored in a corresponding matching system, and storing information regarding a matching enrollment data record in a queue when the probe matches an enrollment data record.

A method of host-directed illumination for verifying the validity of biometric data of a user is provided that includes capturing biometric data from a user with an authentication device during authentication and directing illumination of the biometric data from a host authentication system during the capturing operation. Moreover, the method includes comparing illumination characteristics of the captured biometric data against illumination characteristics expected to result from the directing operation, and determining that the user is a live user when the illumination characteristics of the captured biometric data match the illumination characteristics expected to result from the directing operation.

Abstract:

A method of conducting pattern matching is provided that includes establishing probe categories. Each probe category corresponds to pattern characteristics of one of a plurality of subpopulations. Moreover, the method includes coordinating combinations of the subpopulations and probe categories with pattern matching systems such that each combination corresponds to at least one of a plurality of the pattern matching systems, obtaining pattern data for an object, configuring the obtained object pattern data as a probe, and determining the probe category of the probe. Furthermore, the method includes conducting a matching transaction between the probe and each of the subpopulations using the at least one matching system corresponding to each combination of subpopulation and the determined probe category, and determining at least one candidate match when the probe matches at least one enrollment data record in the at least one matching system of any of the subpopulations.

Abstract:

A method of testing the performance of a biometric authentication system includes conducting an initial biometric authentication transaction for an individual using data associated with the individual, and generating an initial result for the initial transaction with the biometric authentication system. Moreover, the method includes obtaining additional data associated with the individual when the additional data is required for conducting a subsequent biometric authentication transaction or after randomly determining that the subsequent transaction is to be conducted. Furthermore, the method includes conducting the subsequent transaction, generating a subsequent result for the subsequent transaction with the biometric authentication system, and updating cumulative performance records based on the initial and subsequent results. The method also includes generating a summary on a temporal or quantifiable basis that includes the cumulative performance records, and determining the performance of the biometric authentication system using the cumulative performance records or the summary.
