Abstract:

The far field pattern of a slotted planar array antenna is predicted at extreme angles using an improved prediction method. The prediction method acquires planar near field data for a slotted planar array antenna and then back-transforms the planar near field data to the aperture of the antenna corresponding to X position, Y position, amplitude and phase data for the array antenna. An interpolation process calculates the excitation coefficient (phase and amplitude) of each slot element of the antenna using the back-transformed data. The excitation coefficients are then processed using an array factor program to predict the far field pattern of the antenna.

Abstract:

A power driven shaver of the type that includes a housing that has a prime mover therein, with one end of the housing supporting a transverse thin curved shield. The shield has a number of longitudinally and circumferentially spaced slots therein that are of such dimension that whiskers may extend therethrough. A number of helical shaped blades are rotated by the prime mover in close proximity to the interior surface of the shield, with the blades serving to sever inwardly projecting portions of the whisker by a rotating slicing action. The present power driven shaver is free of vibration, and exerts no uncomfortable pulling action on whiskers as they are severed, or the whiskers as they are cut are not compressed or pinched.

Abstract:

Indicia having a requirement for a high degree of precision is printed onto a sheet and is scanned or read automatically shortly thereafter. Electronic control signals result from a comparison of the actually printed indicia with a pre-defined quality standard, and are used selectively to adjust command control signals to the printer to correct indicia printed thereafter. The leading edge of sheets to which the indicia is to be printed is precisely located by a light absorption detection or sensing mechanism which controls a sheet advance motor. The indicia printed, preferably bar code, is read by an optical bar code scanner traversing the printed code. The scanner is controlled by a scanner microprocessor control, and the printer is controlled by a printer microprocessor control which controls a comparison of the scanned code with a set quality standard to result in output signals to control the printer microprocessor control in a feedback loop to increase or to decrease the time of voltage application to printing elements in a thermal printer.

Abstract:

A noise measurement test system 10' for making phase noise and amplitude noise measurements of microwave signals derived from a continuous wave RF source. The system 10' comprises an RF input for receiving an applied RF noise signal and an RF coupler 11 coupled to the RF input for splitting the applied RF noise signal into first and second paths 18a, 18b. A mixer 15 that comprises a synchronous phase detector 15 is coupled to receive signals from the first and second paths 18a, 18b, respectively, and which outputs demodulated phase noise. The first path 18a comprises a variable attenuator 14 and a variable phase shifter 13 coupled between the coupler 11 and the first input of the mixer 15 for providing a reference signal input to the synchronous detector 15. The second path 18b comprises a delay line and an adjustable RF carrier nulling circuit 30 coupled between the coupler 11 and the mixer 15. A video amplifier is coupled to an output of the mixer 15 for providing a baseband video output signal from the system 10' that is processed to produce noise data.
