Abstract:

A method and apparatus for storing multimedia data for use in a digital VCR includes processing that begins by maintaining a first link list of a plurality of memory sections, where the first link list links the plurality of memory sections as a circular buffer. The processing then continues by receiving a stream of multimedia data. The processing then continues by storing the stream of multimedia data in at least some of the memory sections of the plurality of memory sections. The processing then continues by receiving a request for independent storage of a selected portion of the stream of multimedia data, e. g. , the user desires to have a permanent copy of a particular program. The processing further continues by generating a second link list for a set of memory sections of the at least some of the memory sections. The set of memory sections stores the selected portion of the stream of multimedia data. The processing continues by updating the linking of the plurality of memory sections within the first link list without the set of memory section.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for loading data from memory to a cache is provided. The method and apparatus provide substantially improved performance, especially in conjunction with large data arrays for which each element of data is processed completely at once and need not be later accessed. A technique is provided to allow a data element to be loaded directly to a cache location corresponding to the local variable used to process that data element, thereby avoiding copying of the data element to multiple cache locations. In conjunction with the use of non-caching stores of processed results back into main memory, this technique completely avoids cache thrashing within the framework of a conventional microprocessor architecture. This technique is ideally suited for high-performance processing of streaming multimedia data including video processing.

A method of enhancing picture quality of a video signal is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of generating a interpolated base frame image; receiving a first previously decoded difference picture; receiving a second previously decoded difference picture; generating a combined motion compensated difference surface; and generating a temporally interpolated enhanced picture based upon the interpolated base frame image and the combined motion compensated difference surface. A circuit for enhancing picture quality of a video signal is also disclosed. The circuit comprising a base decoder generating a base image of a standard definition picture; a temporal predictive interpolator coupled to the base decoder and generating an interpolated block; and a summing circuit coupled to the temporal predictive interpolated. The summing circuit preferably adds the interpolated block and a difference block.

Abstract:

An object description language and a system in which the language is utilized is provided. The language describes the elements and structure of another programming language. It allows more information to be expressed by a developer than can be expressed in other programming languages. In addition to describing how objects interface with each other, the object description language of the present invention captures thc structure of objects. The object description language can also contain information pertaining to memory management and scheduling. A system in which the language is utilized is also provided. The system assists the developer with code development. The system includes a compiler for the object description language, a compiler for the programming language being described, a separator, and a combiner. The components of the system work together to produce object code that is then executed on an applications platform.

Abstract:

Motion vectors are important to many video signal processing techniques that are applied to video data streams such as MPEG 2 compliant video data streams. The performance of these techniques can often be improved if larger numbers of motion vectors are available. Two techniques are disclosed that may be used to derive a significant number of additional motion vectors from the original motion vectors that exist in an encoded video data stream. A motion vector reversal technique derives new motion vectors representing motion in directions opposite to that represented by original motion vectors. A vector tracing technique derives new motion vectors from combinations of original motion vectors.

Abstract:

In combination with a pump, a valve for operation at the interface between underlying heavier liquid and overlying lighter liquid is disclosed. The valve includes an inlet within the heavier liquid communicated from a valve seat to a conduit which typically is connected to the inlet of a pump. A valve disc opens and closes the valve seat to admit the heavier liquid to flow to the pump. The pump is preferably pneumatic and of the type which when flooded with liquid, automatically undertakes pumping and when empty of liquid ceases pumping. A buoyant member having a specific density between that of the lighter liquid and the heavier liquid is buoyantly supported at the interface and moves with the interface. This buoyant member is connected to an assembly which actuates the valve. Where lighter liquid is predominantly present, the float sinks and closes the valve preventing pumping.
