Abstract:

A housing for a tag assembly comprises an internal chamber defined by sidewalls and a bottom wall; a peripheral flange projecting from the housing; convergent surfaces extending at an upper housing end to an upper surface; and a sensor portal projecting through the housing upper surface in communication with the housing chamber. The housing is positioned within a mold block with the upper housing end resident within a mold block cavity. An upper surface of the peripheral flange and housing sidewall superior to the flange abut sidewall portions of the mold block to isolate the upper housing end with the cavity while carrier strip material is induced into the mold to partially embed the housing therein. An annular apparatus is thus formed comprising an annular carrier strip having a transponder housing at least partially embedded therein in which an upper housing end remains free of the carrier strip.

A system and method for post-cure application of electronics to a tire includes: a first stage assembly in which an ends of an annular antenna wire are positioned within conductive grommets in a base member; a second stage in which a plug is affixed to the base member to hold the antenna ends in place during shaping and curing of the antenna wire into a tire; and a third stage in which the plug is replaced by a tag carrier, the carrier including means for establishing and maintaining electrical contact between the antenna ends and the tag.

Abstract:

A method for integrating tire identification data into a vehicle information system comprises the steps: mounting a tire to a production line vehicle chassis, the tire having tire data storage for storing tire identification data; connecting the tire stored data to a vehicle electronic control unit (ECU) having ECU data storage; reading tire identification data from the stored tire data into the ECU stored data; and uploading the tire identification data from the ECU stored data to an OEM database. The method may optionally include incorporating a tire pressure monitoring system into the tire; and including tire pressure monitoring system identification data in the tire identification data. The vehicle identification data may be incorporated into the ECU stored data and uploaded with the tire identification information to an OEM database at a preferred point in the vehicle assembly line sequence that coincides with the execution of an end-of-line diagnostic test on the vehicle.

Methods of monitoring tire pressure and responding to a tire pressure error. A tire pressure monitoring apparatus provides signals to a vehicle control representing pressures in respective ones of the tires. The vehicle control first detects a tire pressure error in one of the tires, and then presents to a user a first signal representing the tire pressure error in the one of the tires. Then, a user input representing a prospective tire filling activity is detected. Thereafter, a second signal is presented to the user in response to a pressure in the one of the tires being substantially equal to a desired tire pressure.

Abstract:

A read station and method for a vehicle includes a support pad for admitting and exiting a vehicle onto an upper pad surface; two or more data-receiving systems, one or both of such systems receiving a data transmission from a vehicle situated on the read station pad surface. The data-receiving systems include an identification-data transmission system and a monitored parameter-data transmission system. One or more of the read station data-receiving systems may be configured to effect data transmission from the vehicle as the vehicle moves across the support pad. The information-data transmission system couples a vehicle wheel unit based RFID tag with an electric field established by one or more system antennae disposed on the support pad. The monitored parameter-data communication system includes one or more wheel-unit mounted monitoring device(s) transmitting data to one or more receivers disposed within the read station and an initiator sub-system that transmits a signal from pad based antenna(s) to initiate a data transmission sequence.
