A shear pad assembly for use between a rail car side frame pedestal and the rail car roller bearing adapter includes an upper plate formed and adapted to seat the side frame pedestal and a lower plate, spaced from the upper plate, and formed and adapted to seat on the roller bearing adapter. There is an elastomer positioned in the space between the upper plate and the lower plate, with the elastomer having a generally uniform thickness throughout a substantial portion of the space between the plates. There are a pair of spaced metal shims, each extending parallel to a side frame, being adjacent an edge of the elastomer, and being located generally intermediate the upper and lower plates.

Yaw stabilization device provides a light-weight mechanism for increasing the linear yaw stiffness levels between the side frame and bolster to provide the proper inter-axle shear stiffness without affecting the compliancy required of the vertical suspension system. The low profile of a wheel chock allows it to be positioned under a vehicle the rocker panel of which has its lower edge only 148 mm (5.82 inches) above the surface upon which the vehicle's tire rests, so that the installed chock height is reduced to 47.6 mm (1.87 inches) under the components of the vehicle's body.
A railroad truck side frame includes spaced tension and compression members connected by vertical columns. The tension and compression members, as well as the vertical columns, define a window and there is a bolster extending through the window. One side of each vertical column has a widened area, with the opposite side of each vertical column being substantially coplanar with the side frame. The bolster has lugs projecting from both sides thereof on opposite sides of each column, with the space between lugs on each side of the bolster being substantially greater than the width of the side frame and slightly greater than the distance between the outside of the widened area and the opposite side of the vertical column.
Railroad Car Truck Damping Member With Open Cavity And Support Rib Construction
A friction casting for use in a railroad car truck between a side frame column and a bolster pocket slanted wall has a slanted wall to face and be in contact with the bolster pocket slanted wall and a vertical face in contact with the side frame column. The friction casting has a hollow interior, except for a support rib which is perpendicular to the slanted wall of the casting and supports the slanted wall of the casting generally at the zone of contact with the bolster pocket slanted wall. The support rib transfers the load from the slanted face of the friction casting to the vertical face of the friction casting generally at the center of pressure thereof.
