Abstract:
The invention provides novel methods for preparing semiconductor substrates for the growth of an ultra-thin epitaxial interfacial phase thereon. The invention additionally provides the ultra-thin epitaxial interfacial phase formed on a semiconductor substrate prepared by the methods of the invention. Epitaxiality of the interfacial phase is ensured by maintaining the cleaned semiconductor substrate in a static and inert atmosphere prior to oxidation to form the interfacial phase. Such interfacial phase are useful as capping layers and dielectric layers for semiconductor devices.

Substrates may be bonded according to a method comprising contacting a first bonding surface of a first substrate with a second bonding surface of a second substrate to form an assembly; and compressing the assembly in the presence of an oxidizing atmosphere under suitable conditions to form a bonding layer between the first and second surfaces, wherein the first bonding surface comprises a polarized surface layer; the second bonding surface comprises a hydrophilic surface layer; the first and second bonding surfaces are different.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a denture adhesive composition comprising mixed salts of an alkyl vinyl ether-maleic acid or anhydride copolymer and/or terpolymer with isobutylene wherein the mixed salt contains a cationic salt function comprising at least about 22. 5% calcium cations, from about 15% to about 25% of zinc cations, of the total initial carboxyl groups reacted, the mixed salt containing from about 36% to about 50% free acid component. In addition the present invention relates to denture adhesive compositions comprising the above composition and at least one non-adhesive self-supporting layer. The present invention further relates to a method of increasing the adhesion of dentures to the oral cavity by applying the above compositions to dentures, directly to the oral cavity, palate or ridge of the oral cavity, or applying it to both, and thereafter securing the denture to the ridge or palate of the oral cavity.

Compositions are disclosed containing a polymeric mixture diluted into an aqueous solution, which can be usefully applied to any surface mat is hydbcphoixc to act, for example, as an aotifoggiag coating with minimal optical distortion and excellent transparency. The compositions can also be used as lubricious agents on medical implants, shunts, and surgical supplies to minimize tissue trauma, to maximize bio-compatibility, and to increase healing by enhancing better irrigation and flow in adjacent tissue.
