Abstract:

This invention particularly discloses an improved immunoassay method for the sensitive and specific detection of food specific human IgG4 antibodies. A sample diluent comprising a chaotrophic agent is used to reduce the occurrence of nonspecific antibody-dietary antigen interactions. To reduce competition between IgE and IgG4 antibodies for specific epitopes on dietary antigens a heat denaturing step is included to inactivate IgE antibodies. Finally, a signal amplification step is included in the assay to reduce the amount of sample required to perform the assay.

Abstract:

A device for applying an ophthalmologic medicament to a patient's eye is disclosed. The device comprises spectacles defined by a frame and at least one lens; at least one container adapted for accommodating the ophthalmologic medicament; the container is incorporated into the frame; dosing mechanism adapted to control doses of the medicament; and at least one nozzle in a fluid interconnection with the medicament container; the nozzle is secured mechanically to the frame; the nozzle is adapted for providing a medicament mist flow. The nozzle is placed in front of a peripheral portion of a patient's eye slot and adapted to provide the mist flow in front of the patient's eye.

Abstract:

A hatch for venting enclosed spaces has at least one carriage slideably mounted on a circular track so that the hatch may be opened in any direction to provide maximal ventilation. The circular track has a "T"-shaped cross-section that is slideably engaged by the carriage. The carriage carries a lockable hinge that interconnects the carriage and a hatch door. In operation, the carriage is moved around the track until the hatch door is oriented with respect to wind so that an optimal amount of air is directed by the hatch door into the enclosed space to be ventilated. The carriage can be locked into position at any preselected point on the track. The lock is spring-loaded and it is therefore easy to unlock the carriage and re-position it when the wind changes directions.

Abstract:

The present invention discloses a tear analyzing strip (TAS) for measuring dry eye syndrome in a patient. The TAS comprises an elongated body comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion interconnected by a main longitudinal axis. The distal portion comprises at least one tear channel comprising at least one tear receiving portion in fluid communication with an eye of the patient such that tears sampled from the eye into the channel. Reagent pads disposed along the length of the distal portion. The reagent pad is in fluid communication with the tear channel such that tears flow through the tear channel towards the reagent pads, thereby progressively wetting the reagent pads. Each of the reagent pads comprises an effective measure of a reagent capable of biological, physical, or chemical activation by the tears or a component thereof and of providing a visible indication of the activation.
