  • US Classification:
    74107, 74 22 R, 74 96, 74 56, 134 58 D, 200 38
  • Abstract:
A rotary drive mechanism for use with a timer/sequence switch in an appliance is presented. The mechanism converts linear motion from a cam tracker following a programmed cam track to rotary motion to drive a vent damper in an appliance. The rotary motion output is derived as a multiple of the input linear motion through a gear set. This input linear motion is translated to rotary motion imparted to a tracking rod, which is coupled through the gear set to an output actuating rod. Tracking by a tracking lobe is accommodated by a spring bias force applied though a bias lobe that counteracts the force applied by the cam track. Alternatively, tracking by a tracker is accommodated by a spring bias force applied through a torque arm of the tracking rod that also counteracts the force applied by the cam track.
  • Appliance Timer Mechanism Utilizing Snap Action Switching

  • US Patent:
    20060163044, Jul 27, 2006
  • Filed:
    Jan 21, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/040884
  • Inventors:
James Pearson - Downers Grove IL, US
Robert Van der Linde - Aurora IL, US
Thomas Davern - St. Charles IL, US
  • Assignee:
Robertshaw Controls Company - Richmond VA
  • International Classification:
    H01H 19/00
  • US Classification:
    20001100R
  • Abstract:
A motor driven appliance timer utilizing a cam program disk and snap action switches is provided. The motor may be externally energized, or may be energized based on integrated electronics within the appliance timer. Rotation of the program disk by a user to allow selection of a desired appliance cycle is accommodated by a clutch subassembly that allows bidirectional rotation of the program disk without requiring that the user pull or push the control shaft before rotating the program disk. The timer of the present invention may utilize either impulse or constant drive mechanisms to rotate the program disk. The use of snap action switches minimizes the possibility of tack weld failures due to switch teasing.

  • US Patent:
    20060218951, Oct 5, 2006
  • Filed:
    Mar 31, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/096245
  • Inventors:
James Pearson - Downers Grove IL, US
Robert Van der Linde - Aurora IL, US
  • Assignee:
Robertshaw Controls Company - Richmond VA
  • International Classification:
    F25D 17/04
  • US Classification:
    062187000
  • Abstract:
A damper assembly for use in a refrigeration system having a temperature adjustable compartment is presented. The damper assembly comprises a housing and a damper door assembly rotatable therein. The housing includes a flange that cooperates with a semicircular flange of the damper door assembly to form two air flow channels in the housing. When the damper door is open, chilled air from the freezer compartment is allowed to circulate through the damper assembly and through the compartment to provide a quick chill mode of operation. The damper door is also rotatable to a closed position that allows air to circulate within the damper assembly and the compartment. A heater may be included to provide a quick defrost mode of operation.

  • US Patent:
    20060219971, Oct 5, 2006
  • Filed:
    Mar 31, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/096244
  • Inventors:
James Pearson - Downers Grove IL, US

  • Assignee:
Robertshaw Controls Company - Richmond VA
  • International Classification:
    F16K 1/22
  • US Classification:
    251305000
  • Abstract:
A damper assembly that produces bi-directional damper door movement from a single-direction motor is provided. Bi-directional rotation of the damper door is enabled by a cam slot on an end of the damper door that is engaged by a motor-driven drive cam having a drive pin extending into the cam slot. As the single-direction motor collectively rotates the drive cam and the drive pin, the drive pin reciprocates within the cam slot. This causes sealing flanges and the damper from the damper door to alternatively engage under a positive pressure and disengage from one another as the damper door is rotated bi-directionally.

  • Abstract:
A tool for installing a door striker pin includes: a latch engagement section having a first surface, a striker pin extending from the first surface, and an abutment surface that extends generally orthogonal to the first surface; and a pin positioning section coupled to the latch engagement section and including a positioning surface with a striker pin slot formed therethrough that extends in parallel with the striker pin. The striker pin slot is positioned in the positioning surface such that the striker pin slot is aligned with a striker pin installation location when the striker pin of the latch engagement section is engaged with a latch of a door and the abutment surface rests against a frame to which the door is pivotably coupled.
