Abstract:

A method and system for identifying components of a waveform. The system includes an ECG acquisition module, a pressure waveform acquisition module to acquire a pressure waveform, and an analysis module coupled to the ECG acquisition module and the pressure waveform acquisition module. A monitor or similar display device is coupled to the analysis module. The analysis module is operable to determine three peaks in the pressure waveform corresponding to âaâ, âcâ, and âvâ waves. Those âaâ, âcâ, or âvâ waves that are identified by the analysis module are displayed on a monitor or similar device such that they are distinguished from each other and the remainder of the displayed waveform. The method involves displaying a waveform; identifying a number of peaks in a number of intervals of the waveform, and modifying the displayed waveform such that the identified peaks are distinguished from each other and the rest of the pressure waveform.

Abstract:

A method and system of distinguishing physiological pulses as measured by pulmonary artery catheterization. The method includes positioning two measurement devices in blood vessels of a subject, one in a major systemic artery and one in the pulmonary artery, and measuring blood pressure in the blood vessel with the measuring device to generate a pressure waveform. A phase difference between the two pressure waveforms is determined and used to create a warning or to display the phase difference on a display. The system includes an analysis module that determines phase differences based on the inputs from two or more physiological sensing modules.

Techniques for organizing information in a user-interactive system based on user interest are provided. In one aspect, a method for operating a system having a plurality of resources through which a user can navigate is provided. The method includes the following steps. When the user accesses the system, the resources are presented to the user in a particular order. Interests of the user in the resources presented are determined. The interests of the user are compared to interests of other users to find one or more subsets of users to which the user belongs by virtue of having similar interests. Upon one or more subsequent accesses to the system by the user, the order in which the resources are presented to the user is based on interests common to the one or more subsets of users to which the user belongs.

Computer implemented method, system and computer usable program code for detecting topic shift boundaries in a multimedia stream. A computer implemented method for detecting topic shift boundaries in a multimedia stream includes receiving a multimedia stream, and performing multimodal analysis on the multimedia stream to locate a plurality of temporal positions within the multimedia stream at which topic changes have an increased likelihood of occurring to provide a sequence of multimedia portions. Characteristics for a sliding window for each multimedia portion in the sequence of multimedia portions are automatically determined, and topic shift boundaries are detected in each multimedia portion by applying a text-based topic shift detector over the media stream's text transcript using a sliding window, wherein the sliding window used with each multimedia portion has the characteristics determined from its respective multimedia portion.
