Abstract:

A method for refinishing an area of an automobile's exterior is disclosed. The method comprises the following the steps: sanding the area of the automobile's exterior which is to be refinished; cleaning the sanded area; applying a layer of primer formed from a liquid primer or a pre-formed sheet of primer to the cleaned area; applying a layer of basecoat formed from a liquid basecoat or a pre-formed sheet of basecoat over the layer of primer; applying a layer of clearcoat formed from a liquid clearcoat or a pre-formed sheet of clearcoat over the layer of basecoat; and sanding and buffing the layer of clearcoat.

Novel imine functional copolymers are provided containing a plurality of groups of the structure: ##STR1## where R. sub. 1 is hydrogen or methyl; R. sub. 2 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having from about 1 to about 10 carbon atoms; R. sub. 3 is an alkyl or aryl group having from about 1 to about 10 carbon atoms, or R. sub. 3 is bonded to R. sub. 2 and forms part of a five- or six-membered ring; and Y is a divalent linking group having from about 3 to about 15 carbon atoms. Abstract:

Disclosed is a polyester prepared from a mixture of reactants including: a) an aromatic monoacid, where the aromatic monoacid includes from 25 to 60 weight % based on the total weight of reactants; b) a polyacid, where the polyacid includes less than 90 mole % isophthalic acid; and c) a polyol having at least 3 hydroxyl groups. The mixture of reactants is substantially free of a non-aromatic monoacid, and said polyester has a dynamic viscosity of greater than 15,000 centipoise at 40 C. as measured by a Physica MCR 301 rheometer with 25 mm parallel plate and 0.1 mm gap as a function of increasing shear rate (0.1 to 10 s), and an acid value of less than 15 mg KOH/g. The polyacid can also be an aliphatic polyacid. Coatings comprising the same and substrates coated at least in part with such coatings are also disclosed.
