Abstract:
A data processing system and method including a touch pad capable of receiving inputs and providing outputs utilizing a surface of the pad. The surface is first enabled to receive inputs utilizing a plurality of input regions specified within the surface of the I/O touch pad. An output is provided utilizing the surface of the touch pad by outputting a first plurality of location indicators for assisting a user to quickly locate at least one of the plurality of input regions. The surface is then enabled to receive inputs utilizing a different plurality of input regions specified within the surface of the I/O touch pad. The output is then dynamically altered in response to the specification of the different plurality of input regions by outputting a second plurality of location indicators for assisting the user to quickly locate at least one of the different plurality of input regions. The output is altered synchronously with the enablement of the surface to receive inputs utilizing the different plurality of input regions.

Abstract:
Smoothing a mouse pointer track on a screen is accomplished by smoothing mouse movement information using a spatial filtering function. Initially it is determined if the mouse movement information from a pointing device should be smoothed, and if so, which component of the movement information needs smoothing. Then the type of smoothing function is selected and applied to the mouse movement information. The smoothed mouse movement information is then added to the last mouse pointer position thereby smoothing the mouse pointer track.

Abstract:
A control surface is enabled that is flexible to provide a tactile-detectable graphical representation of graphical output from a data processing system. Application of external force to the control surface is detected. Closed-loop force feedback through the tactile-detectable graphical representation is controlled, in response to detection of external force applied to the control surface. In addition, adjustment of a view element is detected. The magnification of the graphical output that is represented by the tactile-detectable graphical representation is controlled, in response to detection of adjustment of the view control element.
Apparatus And A Methods For Server Configuration Using A Removable Storage Device
Apparatus and methods for server configuration using a removable storage device are provided. The apparatus and methods include coupling a removable storage device reader to a server and inserting a removable storage device into the reader. The removable storage device includes configuration data that is used to configure the server. When power is supplied to the server, the server performs a boot-up sequence that includes uploading the configuration data from the removable storage device. The same removable storage device reader may be used to configure a plurality of servers. That is, the removable storage device reader is capable of being easily moved and coupled to a plurality of servers one after the other. The user may make use of the same removable storage device or different removable storage devices for each of the plurality of servers. The user is not required to have any technical knowledge regarding configuring server devices since the server performs the configuration itself upon boot-up based on the configuration information uploaded from the removable storage device.

Abstract:
A customizable touchscreen keyboard, and method, system, and computer program product for customizing the touchscreen keyboard is provided. In one embodiment, a data processing system receives customization characteristics from a user through the touchscreen interface. The data processing system then creates a customized touchscreen keyboard layout based on the customization characteristics and presents the customized touchscreen keyboard layout to a user. For example, the user may customize the keyboard such that the letters are presented in a U-shape with the letters arranged in alphabetical order, thus aiding a user in finding a desired letter. The user may later recustomize the keyboard if desired. Furthermore, the data processing system may reconfigure the keyboard based on past usage by the user.

Abstract:
A method, program and system for enabling alternate input commands by means of a stylus associated with a personal digital assistant (PDA) are provided. The method comprises applying pressure to a pressure sensor on the stylus, which invokes an application on the PDA that interprets stylus input as equivalent to a right mouse click on a computer. In response to the stylus being touched to an object displayed by the PDA, the application opens a menu associated with that object, wherein the menu allows a user to initiate specified object functions and to change specified properties of the object. Invoking the application on the PDA is accomplished via a Bluetooth™ signal between the stylus and PDA.

Abstract:
A computer system provides a user with an ability to configure a filter, according to a user's personal characteristics, for user-input data generated by an input device. It also provides a configurable, customizable, adaptive filter for individualizing user settings, parameters, or algorithms so that the system adapts to user-specific characteristics in order to minimize “errors” in the use of input devices. Moreover, the individual characteristics are portable with the user through the use of a customized adaptive input profile. The customized adaptive input profile may be stored on a network or within a smart card so that the customized parameters are accessible when the user requires the use of a particular client or workstation in a distributed data processing environment.

Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for filtering content based on the accessibility of the content to a user are provided. The apparatus and methods make use of an evaluation tool that evaluates requested content for accessibility to users having special needs, such as handicapped or disabled users. The results of the evaluation are then compared to a user's designation of a required accessibility level to determine if the content is accessible to the user. If the results of the evaluation indicate that the content meets the user's required accessibility level, the content is provided to the user. If the evaluation indicates that the content does not meet the user's required accessibility level, the content is not provided to the user or a not accessible indicator is appended to the content. In a further embodiment, the content may be modified to make the content accessible to the user.
Trennung ist unser Los,
Wiedersehen unsere Hoffnung.
aber nicht aus unserem Leben;
denn wie vermöchten wir ihn tot wähnen,
der so lebendig unserem Herzen innewohnt!
