Abstract:
A high frequency infrared radiation source including a hermetically sealed chamber with a plasma generating gas therein, a pair of spaced electrodes in the chamber for creating a plasma therebetween, a window in the chamber, and a collimating lens made of infrared radiation transmissive material disposed between the pair of electrodes and the window.
A concentration detection system with a radiation source device which outputs a collimated beam of radiation across a sample path having an unknown concentration of fluid of interest and a detector device including a sample sensor, a reference sensor, and an integrating lens positioned to integrate the collimated radiation passing through the sample path evenly over the sample sensor and the reference sensor so that the instantaneous fields of view of the sample sensor and the reference sensor are the same to equalize any obscurations effects thereof.

Abstract:
A capnograph system sensor head includes an airway adapter, a housing for receiving the airway adapter, a source of infrared radiation coupled to the housing for directing infrared radiation through the airway adapter, and a detector subsystem coupled to the housing and responsive to the infrared radiation after it passes through the airway adapter for providing an analog output. A circuit sub-assembly is integrated with the sensor head and includes a controller responsive to the analog output of the detector subsystem. The controller is configured to adjust the gain of the detector subsystem to output a digital signal representative of the amount of a particular gas flowing through the airway adapter.

Abstract:
A tissue biopsy cell suspender device includes a receptacle having a sealable opening. The receptacle contains a sufficient quantity of an aqueous medium to support an enzymatic dissociation of cells from a tissue biopsy sample. The device has a removable closure with a first sealing position and a second sealing position for sealing the opening in the receptacle. The device further includes a frangible container having a sufficient quantity of an enzyme therein to dissociate cells from the tissue biopsy sample. The frangible container is covered with a membrane that is permeable to water and to the enzyme. The frangible container is disposed within the receptacle so that the container is intact when the closure is in the first sealing position and the container is breached when the closure is in the second sealing position. When the frangible container is breached, the enzyme is released to permeate into the medium and for dissociation of the cells from the tissue sample.
