Abstract:A method for preparing a catalyst composition is disclosed. In particular, a support is vacuum impregnated with at least one catalytically active element and, thereafter, the vacuum impregnated support is calcined to provide the catalyst composition. Preferably, the vacuum impregnation of the support is performed in a two-step sequence by (a) vacuum impregnating said support with said at least one element and, thereafter, calcining said support, and (b) vacuum impregnating said support with at least one other element. The catalyst composition prepared by the prescribed method is preferably used in a process for producing a mixture of lower aliphatic alcohols.

Abstract:Described are novel enaminones of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a lower alkyl or oxyalkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, R. sub. 1 is an alkyl group having from 1 to 200 carbon atoms or a similar alkyl group substituted by nitrogen, oxygen or other inert substituents; R. sub. 2 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms; R. sub. 3 is an alkyl or substituted alkyl group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms. These products are prepared by the reaction of a 1,3-dicarbonyl compound and a primary or secondary amine analog. In neat or mixed form, the present compounds are useful as dispersants-detergents in oleaginous compositions.

Abstract:Manganese oxide octahedral molecular sieve (OMS) is produced by the method comprising: a) forming an aqueous reaction medium containing manganese cation and permanganate anion, the reaction medium being maintained at a pH of not greater than about 4. 5; b) refluxing the aqueous reaction medium under conditions which are effective to produce solid crystalline manganese oxide octahedral molecular sieve product; and, c) recovering the solid crystalline product. The method of this invention is carried out in an open system, i. e. , a reflux condenser, and results in the formation of OMS which is thermally stable up to about 600. degree. C.
