Abstract:
The present invention provides a lightweight structure for simultaneously providing a reduced infrared and radar signature, while adding little or no weight to a vehicle. As such, the present invention allows for substantial improvements over prior systems. An example of the type of vehicle able to make use of the present invention is a military helicopter, but there is nothing within the spirit and scope of the present invention limiting it to any particular vehicle. The teachings of the present invention are useful with any vehicle for which a reduction in infrared emissions and microwave reflections is desired.

Abstract:
A method, data transmission element and stand for enabling optical data transmission in a mobile station. A mobile station, which comprises means for transmitting and/or receiving data in optical format, is arranged in a stand which comprises a data transmission element. The data transmission element transmits the optical signals transmitted by the mobile station to the surrounding area of the stand and/or the optical signals intended for the mobile station from the surrounding area of the stand to the mobile station. The optical signal propagates through the data transmission element in optical format and can be infra-red light, visible light and/or ultra-violet light.

Abstract:
A method for mapping a two-dimensional image data onto a three-dimensional graphic model of an object includes taking a plurality of two-dimensional images of the object. Each two-dimensional image has data, such as temperature data, which is desired to be represented on the three-dimensional graphic model. The three-dimensional model of the object is viewed on a graphic user interface. The three-dimensional model has a plurality of facets, each facet being configured for selectively receiving the data from the two-dimensional images, so that the two-dimensional images are mapped onto the facets of the three-dimensional model. The three-dimensional model can then be analyzed.

Relying on light signals also means that robotic hands could be made with cheaper materials, which could lead to cheaper prosthetic hands that give the wearer a sense of touch, says Robert Shepherd, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Cornell who co-authored the study.

Beyond Terminator: Squishy "Octobot" Heralds New Era of Soft Robotics
Now what needs to be worked out is how to reprogram the robots to perform different actions, to respond to the environment, and not just perform a pre-programmed sequence, says materials engineer Robert Shepherd at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Shepherd is especially keen to see whether
"This skin could allow soft robots to make themselves more or less visible in their environment, or colorize themselves to appear more friendly or aggressive. Those are traits we'd borrow directly from the octopus," said Robert Shepherd, one of the project's lead researchers. Their creation is capab

Super-stretchy octopus-inspired robotic 'skin' developed
"Soft robots themselves have a great potential for human-robot interaction, because they're much safer and feel nice," says Robert Shepherd, the Cornell University roboticist who headed the research effort. Robert Shepherd, an associate professor with the School of Public Policy and Administration at Ottawa's Carleton University, played down any notion of controversy, saying there is no evidence of special attention being given, or favours being asked.
Cornell University mechanical and aerospace engineering professors Mason Peck and Robert Shepherd received a $100,000 grant from NASA for the amphibious-rover project. Peck is NASA's former chief technologist.
In English/language arts, even the former president of the Modern Language Association, Gerald Graff, finds most of the standards unnecessary and nonsensical. For curriculum expert Robert Shepherd, they are "just another set of blithering, poorly thought-out abstractions." Teachers still don't know
