Abstract:

A system for manipulating a transport container cover using a gantry assembly. The gantry assembly supports a cover assembly for housing a cover to be deployed over a load. The gantry assembly has a three telescoping sections including a base section fixed with respect to a truck, a top section fixed to the cover assembly and a middle section therebetween. The sections are adjustable to a height such that the cover will extend above the transport container and the load therein. A lift mechanism aids the movement of the gantry assembly upward along with the cover assembly. The sections telescope from one another as the lift mechanism rises, thereby allowing the cover to be raised several feet above the truck cab or container.

Abstract:

An apparatus mounts a covering system of a truck. The apparatus can have a stud, a lock ring, a retaining plate, and means for releasably attaching the apparatus to the truck. The stud can have a base and a shaft having an anchor for receiving a reaction end of an at least one spring. The lock ring can have a pocket having a complementary shape to the base of the shaft for adjustably rotating the stud through a three-hundred sixty degree (360) range. The retaining plate can have an aperture for receiving the shaft. The means for releasably attaching the apparatus can include at least one fastener.

Abstract:

A locking system for locking a container to a vehicle includes a locking assembly mounted to a hoist frame and a striker assembly mounted to the vehicle chassis. The locking assembly has at least one hook for hooking over a frame member of the container. The hook has a center of mass that biases the hook to an unlocked position. The striker assembly strikes the hook at a location to move the hook against the bias of the hook's center of mass into a locked position in which the hook is hooked over the frame member of the container. As the hoist frame supporting the container is lowered, the striker assembly contacts the hook and rotates the hook against the bias of the hook's center of mass into the locked position. As the hoist frame is raised, the hook rises as well and loses contact with the striker assembly, thereby falling away from the hoist frame and unlocking the container.

Abstract:

An apparatus for opening and closing a cover of a truck is disclosed. The apparatus includes a rotatable shaft that can be connected to multiple supports in order to provide a torsion force to each of the supports to pivotably rotate the supports and the cover between an opened position and a closed position. The shaft is hexagonal in cross-section. The supports are attachable to the cover and are pivotably attached at an end of each support to a side of the container, for supporting the cover and moving the cover between an open position and a closed position. A plurality of hinges are used to pivotably attach the supports to the container and to rotatably receive the shaft proximate to and parallel to the one side of the container. An actuator is used to provide rotary motion to the shaft. The actuator includes a hydraulic cylinder and a chain and sprockets for converting linear motion of the cylinder to rotary motion of the shaft.

Abstract:

A compensated barrel shroud that encloses and supports a firearm barrel provides a first portion of the shroud for receiving the barrel that extends from the firearm frame to an end of the barrel. There is a second larger inner diameter portion extending from the end of the barrel to a forwardmost outer end of the shroud. The barrel and shroud are screwed together by interengaging threads positioned adjacent the end of the barrel. The end of the shroud has a decreased diameter exit hole defining an expansion chamber within the second larger inner diameter portion. At least one slot is formed along a top surface of the second portion to allow expanding propellant gas from within the second portion to escape. The slot is sized and arranged to provide a downward thrust to the barrel shroud to compensate recoil forces generated in firing a round.

Abstract:

A compensated barrel shroud that encloses and supports a firearm barrel provides a first portion of the shroud for receiving the barrel that extends from the firearm frame to an end of the barrel. A securing nut engages threads at the end of the barrel and secures the barrel shroud to the barrel. An end cap is positioned at the forwardmost end of the shroud. The end cap has an outer hole with an inner diameter substantially equal to an inner of the barrel thereby forming an expansion chamber within the second portion. A plurality of slots are formed along a top surface of the second portion to allow expanding propellant gas from within the second portion to escape out of the slots. These slots are sized and arranged to provide a downward thrust to the barrel shroud to compensate recoil forces generated in firing a round.
