Abstract:

An image display apparatus that includes a color filter coupled to a liquid crystal display. The color filter contains a two dimensional array of colored dots. The array may include discrete red, green and blue dots. To generate an image a controller selects a pixel address of the color filter from a matrix defined by a plurality of pixel points. The controller then selects one or more dots to be associated with the selected pixel address. With such a scheme the same dot may be associated with one or more pixels. Sharing dots reduces the number of red, green and blue dots required for a given screen size. This allows the LCD to be constructed with larger dots, thereby reducing the cost of producing the apparatus.

Abstract:

A hand worn washing device. The device includes a housing that has a soap chamber and a mixing chamber. The housing includes a chamber opening that provides fluid communication between the soap and mixing chambers. The housing also has at least one outlet opening. The device has a nozzle that directs fluid onto the chamber opening and an attachment feature that allows the housing and the nozzle to be attached to a human hand. A portion of water provided by the nozzle flows through the chamber opening and into the soap chamber. A mixture of soap and water flows back out of the soap chamber and into the mixing chamber. The soap and water further mix in the mixing chamber and the mixed soap/water is then dispensed through the outlet opening.

A loose-leaf binder stiffener, which has a body (20) with an integral U-shaped channel portion (28) that grips the upper edge of a binder for holding it in an open and flat position. The channel portion includes an upper leg (32) with a wedge shaped end (36) that is forced between the binders spine (22) and ring holding rigid strip (38). A C-shaped portion (56) of the body (20) holds and stores pens or pencils and a raised upright member (60) adds stiffness. Three embodiments of the upright member (60) include a card holder (62), a beam (68), and a second C-shaped member (56').

Abstract:

A method to apply a high performance overlay to a metal substrate of a rock bit to render the substrate surfaces of the rock bit more resistant to erosion, corrosion and substrate cracking while performing in an earthen formation is described. The method comprises the steps of bombarding the surfaces with a thermal spray of entrained fine particles of a cermet based composition at a velocity in excess of 3,000 ft/per sec. The resultant coating of the cermet based composition has a tensile bond strength in excess of 20,000 psi that results in an increase of the strain to fracture of the rock bit surface. The hard overlay has a resistance to severe service environments of high strain and shock tolerance as well as a higher load carrying capacity.
