An improved nuclear fission reactor of the liquid metal cooled type including a core configuration allowing for only two operational states, “On” or “Off”, therefore bi-stable. The flow of the primary cooling fluid suspends the core in the “On” state, with sufficient flow to remove the heat to an intermediate heat exchanger during normal operation. This invention utilizes the force of gravity to shut down the reactor after any loss of coolant flow, either a controlled reactor shut down or a “LOCA” event, as the core is controlled via dispersion of fuel elements. Electromagnetic pumps incorporating automatic safety electrical cut-offs are employed to shutdown the primary cooling system to disassemble the core to the “Off” configuration in a situation of a loss of secondary coolant. This design is a hybrid pool-loop unpressurized reactor unique in its use of a minimum number of components, utilizing no moving mechanical parts, no seals, optimized piping, and no control rods, defining an elegantly simple intrinsically safe nuclear reactor.
An improved invention relating to protective breathing devices in general, and more specifically describes an apparatus to economically and effectively mitigate against airborne viral infection. Used as an insert in conjunction with a variety of other masks, powered air purifying respirators (PAPR), and breathing devices; this device combines an internal air deflection shell and with a miniaturized high-intensity shortwave UV light source to sterilize airborne germs. Can also be used with filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs) as a between use disinfecting system for reuse. The personal air purification mask sterilizing insert serves as an air mask infection mitigating insert while donned and a disinfection device while doffed. Facilitating the conservation of precious resources in that the design is more elegantly simple affording lower cost and ease of operation while providing for reuse of N95 FFRs.This way, disposable N95 masks can be recycled and used more than once to protect people against infection, and conserve medical supplies in view of shortages in supplies in outbreak situations.
An improved autonomous fire suppression nozzle and head assembly comprising a system of components to support the “hose”, transport the “nozzle/head” device via reactive jet propulsion, while utilizing no external moving parts, by the principle of acceleration of a fluid through a plurality of lifting nozzles, and utilizing the hydraulic force of fluid pressure to assure dependable propulsion.A self-guided, self-propelled, fire detecting, hose delivery device for the application of a multitude of fire suppression fluids or gasses.A novel means of integrating the functions of navigation, fire detection, guidance, and control of the fire attack phase, by reactive flying of the assembly allows for delivery of fire suppression over obstructed paths, up into tall structures, indoor flight through rooms and/or corridors, including internal vessel and outdoor operations. Therefore application of this novel fire suppression system is simply universal. In summary, this novel elegant autonomous fire nozzle and hose assembly device can be characterized as “a life saving device” because of the utilization of the dependable hydraulic forces to cause the “Robot Fire Hose” to travel quickly, instead of people, into harms way.
An improved electrical generation system explained herein is a method and equipment whereby nuclear reactors are used to directly propel water pumps to lift water from a lower-elevation body of water to a higher-elevation body of water, where it is stored as potential energy. In one application of this method, one or more water pumps, each powered directly by heat from a nuclear reactor, lift water from down-stream of a river, stream, or pond to upstream of a dam at which a hydro-power plant is installed. The nuclear reactor may be of the pressurized-water, boiling-water, liquid metal cooled, or molten salt-cooled type. Small modular reactors (SMRs) are ideally suited to provide pumping heat in an incremental manner in such a method. Reactor heat output may be proportionally diverted to pumping or desalination loads to maintain the reactor core power level at a constant optimized steady state. Upon demand, the lifted water is used to generate electricity utilizing the hydro-power plant. A weir or small dam may be constructed across the river or stream downstream of the heat powered pump, the function of which is to create a reservoir or pool from which water can be pumped. This way, water can be recycled and used more than once to generate electricity, and the reactor can be operated at a steady state power level in conjunction with a preexisting hydro-power plant, thus allowing generation of electricity year-round despite lower water flow conditions.
An improved nuclear fission reactor of the liquid metal cooled type including a core configuration allowing for only two operational states, “Power” or “Rest”. The flow of the primary cooling fluid suspends the core in the “Power” state, with sufficient flow to remove the heat to an intermediate heat exchanger during normal operation. This invention utilizes the force of gravity to shut down the reactor after any loss of coolant flow, either a controlled reactor shut down or a “LOCA” event, as the core is controlled via dispersion of fuel elements. Electromagnetic pumps incorporating automatic safety electrical cut-offs are employed to shutdown the primary cooling system to disassemble the core to the “Rest” configuration due to a loss of secondary coolant or loss of ultimate heat sink. This invention is a hybrid pool-loop pressurized high-temperature or unpressurized reactor unique in its use of a minimum number of components, utilizing no moving mechanical parts, no rotating seals, optimized piping, and no control rods. Thus defining an elegantly simple intrinsically safe nuclear reactor.
