Abstract:
Long time interleaver and listenable audio performance enhancements for a satellite receiver are presented. One enhancement includes comparing a correlation and a predetermined threshold value and blocking satellite signal data transmission from entry into long time interleaver (LTI) device circuitry and forward error correction (FEC) circuitry when the correlation value is the same as, or less than the predetermined threshold value. Another enhancement includes using Reed-Solomon codeword error checking to prevent erroneous baseband signal data from being accepted as good baseband signal data. A further enhancement includes storing symbol timing and frequency data during a strong signal condition of the satellite receiver and using this stored data when the satellite receiver encounters a weak signal condition. Another enhancement includes mitigating DC offset noise in a satellite receiver having a zero-IF tuner.

Abstract:
A transceiver system and method determining a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) is provided. The system includes at least one amplifier, a filter bank, a plurality of detectors, and at least one processor. The at least one amplifier receives an input signal. The filter bank is in electrical communication with the at least one amplifier. The plurality of detectors are in electrical communication with the filter bank, where a first detector of the plurality of detectors is in electrical communication with a first portion of the filter bank, and a second detector of the plurality of detectors is in electrical communication with a second portion of the filter bank. The at least one processor is in electrical communication with the plurality of detectors, and estimates a VSWR based upon voltages detected by the first and second detectors.

Abstract:
A system is provided for controlling personalized settings in a vehicle. The system includes a microphone for receiving spoken commands from a person in the vehicle, a location recognizer for identifying location of the speaker, and an identity recognizer for identifying the identity of the speaker. The system also includes a speech recognizer for recognizing the received spoken commands. The system further includes a controller for processing the identified location, identity and commands of the speaker. The controller controls one or more feature settings based on the identified location, identified identity and recognized spoken commands of the speaker. The system also optimizes on the beamforming microphone array used in the vehicle.

Abstract:
A method is presented to extend a frequency lock range of a received RF signal in a satellite receiver. One step in the method includes analyzing data information of a preamble associated with the received satellite RF signal. Another step includes determining an estimated frequency value that is a function of the analyzed data information that further includes at least a portion of the frequency error formed therein. A further step includes comparing the determined estimated frequency value to a predetermined threshold value. Another step includes using the determined estimated frequency value when the determined frequency value is greater than the predetermined threshold value to operatively control tracking mode electronic circuitry disposed in the satellite receiver to attain frequency lock on the received satellite RF signal.

Abstract:
A differential demodulator that is particularly suited for a digital audio broadcasting (DAB) system, and more particularly to the Eureka-147 (DAB) system, is disclosed. The differential demodulator of the present invention receives complex data components I and Q derived from a fast fourier transform operation and converts the data components I and Q into differential data components. DELTA. I and. DELTA. Q that are accepted by data demodulating elements of the Eureka-147 system so as to be reconstructed as digital data which, in turn, are converted into an analog form that is converted and reproduced into corresponding high quality sound. The conversion of I and Q data into. DELTA. I and. DELTA. Q data is accomplished via a network of four ROMs and one RAM, wherein the ROMs are time-shared between the multiple carriers of the Eureka-147 system.

Abstract:
A synchronization network that provides frame timing that is particularly suited for a Eureka-147 system is disclosed. The synchronization network reduces the typical amount of computations required to provide for frame timing schemes and includes matched filtering operations that separate the waveforms of null and sine symbols contained in the multiple carriers of the Eureka-147 system. The matched filtering technique are accomplished before a fast Fourier transform operation and which accomplishments elimination of the need of an inverse fast Fourier transform operation normally performed by one of the receiver elements of the Eureka-147 system. This elimination is accomplished without degrading the performance of the Eureka-147 system.

Abstract:
A hybrid broadcast receiver and method of operating a memory in the receiver. The memory is used to store received data being processed in the receiver. The receiver is configured to receive both a terrestrial signal broadcast by a terrestrial transmitter and a satellite signal broadcast by a satellite transmitter. Terrestrial data from the terrestrial signal is stored in a terrestrial portion of the memory that includes a top end or first location of the memory. Satellite data from the satellite signal is stored in a satellite portion of the memory that includes a bottom end or last location of the memory.
