Abstract:

In an embodiment, a computer system comprises one or more content file servers having recorded thereon a plurality of digital content material items, and a plurality of digital graphical image files comprising graphical images associated with the content material items; wherein each of content material items comprises one or more data files of digitized electronic printed, audio, or video content material; one or more navigation page servers each comprising: one or more storage devices having recorded thereon a plurality of navigation page templates; a database comprising stored descriptive information about the content material items, including hierarchical and other relationships both between different content material items and between different subcomponents of content material items; logic encoded on the one or more storage devices and when executed operable to perform: receiving a request to view a particular navigation page, comprising a dynamically-generated electronic document; selecting one of the navigation page templates based on the request; creating and sending to the database, one or more queries for the descriptive information relating to the particular navigation page; receiving one or more results to the queries; generating, based on the one or more results, a particular navigation page comprising descriptive information about one or more of the content material items, portions thereof, or abstract collections thereof; a plurality of links to other such navigation pages; and zero or more links to particular content material items or portions thereof; sending only the particular navigation page to a client computer.

Abstract:

An apparatus comprises data storage coupled to one or more processors and a plurality of data elements contained in a database structure and organized in a hierarchical data tree, and instructions that perform receiving a network location identifier from a client computer, wherein the network location identifier comprises at least a portion that specifies a first view of the data tree; creating, using the portion of the network location identifier, a relational database query and submitting the query to a relational database; receiving from the relational database a set of data elements that is associated with the first view; generating a first electronic document comprising the set of data elements, including generating transformative links to other network location identifiers corresponding to performing actions on nodes in the data tree; and providing the first electronic document to the client computer.

Abstract:

In an embodiment, a method comprises creating and storing, in a database, first records representing reviews of one or more content items, wherein each of the first records comprises a field or associated index which directly or indirectly uniquely specifies a list of content item identifiers for content items that are reviewed in the review of that record; creating and storing, in the database, second records representing the content items, wherein each of the second records comprises a field or associated index which directly or indirectly uniquely specifies a list of review item identifiers for reviews that review the content item of that record; receiving, from a requesting computer, a request to display a summary web page associated with one of the reviews; in response to the request, generating a summary web page and providing the summary web page over a network to the requesting computer, wherein the summary web page comprises descriptive information about the requested review, and zero or more hyperlinks to electronic files that store the digitized forms of the content items identified in the second records, wherein the hyperlinks are dynamically generated based on the content item list uniquely specified by the first record. In an embodiment, a database stores records of reviews that are massively cross-linked to records of content items reviewed in the reviews, and pages can be dynamically generated to display the reviews and links to digitized files containing the reviews and the reviewed content items.
