Abstract:

An air cleaner has a casing having an air inlet and an air outlet with an air filter therebetween. A sump with a drain hole is formed in the casing between the filter and outlet. A valve opens the drain hole to drain the sump in response to the collection of a predetermined amount of liquid thereabove in the sump collected from air passing from the filter to the outlet. And an air filter filters any air passing through the drain hole from outside the casing should the valve open while air is passing from the normal inlet to the outlet.

Abstract:

An inlet duct and seal assembly is disclosed having, as its preferred application, the attachment of an intake air transfer duct to the throttle body of an internal combustion engine. The throttle body is provided with an inlet opening about which extends an annulus defining an outer annular wall. The inlet air duct has an opening which corresponds in diameter to that of the annular outer wall. A seal is disposed in the duct opening and includes an inwardly, radially directed wiper seal which is flexibly deformed between the annular wall and the duct opening when the duct opening is engaged over the throttle body inlet. A pivot clip extends from the inlet duct to engage a shelf on the throttle body to thereby position the duct opening with respect to the throttle body annulus to assure a proper seal and to simplify assembly of the components,.

The drawings illustrate an air filter assembly which is assembled from a pair of identical box-like housing halves. Equally spaced rib elements are formed in each half such that, upon assembly, the rib elements are interdigitated to provide a space for confining therebetween a pleated filtering sheet having a large filtering area.
