For a computer-monitored operation of a common carrier truck currently mandated by law to limit a driving shift to ten hours per driver to minimize accidents due to driver fatigue, replacing a manual input of the drivers identification per shift with a driver-identifying fingerprint sensor to provide verification of both driver and truck operation resulting from the inherent tamperproof accuracy of the computer and fingerprint sensor.

Abstract:

Positioning, by the use of a unitary construction, a breathalyzer and retina/eye-scanner a distance apart from each other that corresponds to the typical distance separating an individuals mouth and eyes, so that there can be positioned only one individuals face adjacent the unitary construction preparatory to the use thereof, which minimizes the use of two individuals, one to provide a sober breath to the breathalyzer and the other to provide a bogus retina scan of the identification of the individual using the breathalyzer.

Abstract:

A coiled fiber optic cable comprises an optical fiber of glass or plastic that is disposed loosely within a buffer tube. The buffer tube in turn is surrounded with a plastic strength member that is then jacketed in a thermoplastic cover. The assembled cable is wound on a mandrel in a closed helix and is heated to set the helical shape in the plastic member. After cooling, the spiral may be reverse wound to set the coiled configuration. The optical fiber may be single-mode or multimode and it may be graded-index clad or step-index clad. The coiled cable can be terminated to interconnect optical components. If the optical fiber is a single-mode fiber that is not treated to reduce internal reflections when it is bent, then the attenuation of the optical signal will be found to be an inverse function of the extension of the coiled cable. This makes it possible to use coiled single-mode fiber as an optical attenuator in a mechanical apparatus that supports the coiled fiber and provides repeatable positioning to obtain a predetermined value of optical attenuation.

Abstract:

A system and method for coding of documents, such as in a litigation support setting, uses machine readable indicia to increase the speed and accuracy of coding operations. For example, bar codes can be used on the documents to represent document numbers or other unique identifier, and can also be provided on "blotters" or menus and used to represent keyword data to be coded. Thus, a coding operator can scan a bar code or other indicium on the document and then scan the bar codes for all appropriate keywords. The system would then associate that document with those keywords. Once the bar codes or other indicia have been affixed to the documents, they can be used during further copying or imaging operations to make sure that the document feeders for those operations do not misfeed any documents, by automatically scanning the indicia and checking that they appear in the expected order. If they do not, the process can be stopped and the operator notified.
