Abstract:
Method is described for sequencing polypeptides by forming peptide ladders comprising a series of polypeptides in which adjacent members of the series vary by one amino acid residue and determining the identity and position of each amino acid in the polypeptide by mass spectroscopy.
Method For Detecting Post-Translation Modifications Of Peptides
This invention provides for novel methods of identifying covalent modifications of an amino acid residue in a polypeptide chain by detecting mass differences.

Assignee:
Allied Corporation - Morris Township, Morris County NJ
International Classification:
F16H 2910
US Classification:
75123B
Abstract:
A homogeneous boron containing alloy is disclosed with a composition which can be essentially represented by the formula of: M. sub. i T. sub. j B. sub. k where M is a metal from the group of nickel, iron, cobalt or a mixture thereof; T is a refractory metal from the group of molybdenum, tungsten, or a mixture thereof; and B is the element boron. The subscripts i, j, k are the respective atomic percent of each of the constituents and vary respectively between about 25 and 98, between about 1 and 40, and between 1 and 35 with the proviso that j>k, and i+j+k=100. By further limitation of the chemistry, it is possible to assure the alloy will age harden.

Abstract:
Methods of producing biopolymer ladders and their use to obtain structural information about the biopolymer. The ladders are produced by setting up catalytic cleavage and terminating reactions at the end of biopolymer molecules. The terminating reactions terminate cleavage of a percentage of the biopolymer molecules at each round of cleavage.
