  • Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
  • International Classification:
    G06F 11/00
  • US Classification:
    714 57
  • Abstract:
A method, apparatus and computer-usable medium for the graphical presentation of the contextual relationship between a reported exception and its related resources and/or contributing factors. An exception view is presented to display an abnormally operating resource and the operational state of its related resources and/or contributing factors. Contextually related processes and resources are graphically depicted in one or more hierarchy trees, topologically-oriented views, or other depictions, with the operational health or condition of each resource indicated. Fault determination and resolution of the reported exception and its related processes and resources can then be facilitated.

  • Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
  • International Classification:
    G06F 11/07
    G06F 11/30
  • US Classification:
    714 25, 714 48
  • Abstract:
A system and method of characterizing the status of a complex system provide for determining a combined status level of a pair of related objects in an architecture, wherein one of the pair of related objects is a destination object and another of the pair of related objects is a source object. The combined status level determination can be cascaded through the architecture toward a front-end object corresponding to the pair of related objects to obtain a set of combined status levels. A status output may also be generated based on the set of combined status levels.
  • Network Endpoint Health Check

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20050108389, May 19, 2005
  • Filed:
    Nov 13, 2003
  • Appl. No.:
    10/712677
  • Inventors:
Christopher Kempin - Holly Springs NC, US
Robert Orr - Raleigh NC, US
Rosalind Radcliffe - Durham NC, US
  • Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
  • International Classification:
    G06F015/173
  • US Classification:
    709224000
  • Abstract:
In a system and method for monitoring the integrity of a plurality of endpoint devices in a network, each endpoint device is in communication with a gateway device and transmits a periodic message to this gateway device. When the gateway device fails to receive a periodic message from an endpoint, the gateway device marks the endpoint as in trouble. The next time the gateway device fails to receive a periodic message from the same endpoint, the gateway device marks the endpoint as removed. The gateway is in communication with a central server and sends status update messages to this central server.
  • System And Method For Process Driven Quality Measures

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20050114106, May 26, 2005
  • Filed:
    Nov 21, 2003
  • Appl. No.:
    10/718857
  • Inventors:
Vanadis Crawford - Raleigh NC, US
Angela Pitts - Burlington NC, US
Rosalind Allen Radcliffe - Durham NC, US
Leah Seifert - Holly Springs NC, US
  • Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
  • International Classification:
    G06G007/48
  • US Classification:
    703006000
  • Abstract:
A system and method for process driven quality measures is presented. A common metrics manager analyzes customer feedback responses, and assigns a weighted priority to each feedback response. The weighted priority corresponds to a particular feedback response's impact on business goals, such as customer satisfaction. The common metrics manager uses weighted priority feedback responses to generate and rank a set of common metrics. The common metrics manager uses the common metrics to generate phase goals for each phase of a product's lifecycle. The number of phase goals for each product phase corresponds to the ranking of each particular common metric. Once a product ships to a customer which is developed using the common metrics, the customer sends feedback responses to the common metrics manager which the common metrics manager uses to generate new common metrics for use with a new product lifecycle.
  • Ranking Software Product Requirements Using Customer Interest Categories And Supplier Metrics

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20050187810, Aug 25, 2005
  • Filed:
    Feb 19, 2004
  • Appl. No.:
    10/782645
  • Inventors:
Vanadis Crawford - Raleigh NC, US
Angela Pitts - Burlington NC, US
Rosalind Allen Radcliffe - Durham NC, US
Leah Seifert - Holly Springs NC, US
  • Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
  • International Classification:
    G06F017/60
  • US Classification:
    705010000
  • Abstract:
A method by which a supplier can rank software product requirements, an algorithm for determining the rankings, and computer program products for implementing the method and algorithm. A requirement is described with reference to customer interest categories. For each category, supplier metrics are evaluated, to provide partial scores. An overall score is then determined from the partial scores, and various products competing for common resources are ranked according to their overall scores.
  • Monitoring Method, System, And Computer Program Based On Severity And Persistence Of Problems

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20070005298, Jan 4, 2007
  • Filed:
    Jun 22, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/158959
  • Inventors:
Wade Allen - Efland NC, US
    Paolo Deidda - Roma, IT
David Fresquez - Cary NC, US
    Antonio Perrone - Roma, IT
Rosalind Radcliffe - Durham NC, US
  • Assignee:
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION - ARMONK NY
  • International Classification:
    G21C 17/00
  • US Classification:
    702182000
  • Abstract:
For monitoring a data processing system, a sequence of critical conditions with increasing severity indexes is defined. Each critical condition is detected when a corresponding state parameter exceeds a threshold value with a predefined persistence over time. The persistence may be specified by a minimum number of repeated occurrences of this event, with a maximum number of consecutive non-occurrences that are allowed between them. Whenever critical conditions are detected, the monitoring application retrieves the severity index of the last detected critical condition with the highest severity index, and calculates an incremental index indicative of how closely the state parameter is approaching the next critical condition. An indicator of the health of the system may be generated by subtracting the severity index of the last critical condition plus the incremental index from an optimal value.
