Abstract:
A broad band omnidirectional monocone antenna 10 having a wide operative frequency spectrum and a large elevation angle A is disclosed herein. The antenna 10 of the present invention includes an input circular waveguide network 12 and 18 for providing electromagnetic energy of at least one polarization. Coupled to the circular waveguide network 12 and 18 is a dielectric-loaded waveguide arrangement 22 for projecting a first electromagnetic beam. The inventive antenna 10 further includes a parasitic element network 32, 34, and 36 positioned in the path of the first beam. The parasitic element network 32, 34, and 36 is disposed to form a parasitic beam in response to the first beam. In a particular embodiment of the inventive antenna 10 a beam shaping cone 40 circumscribes the dielectric waveguide arrangement 22. The cone 40 is adapted to augment the elevation angle A characterizing the antenna 10 of the present invention by redirecting the parasitic beam.

Abstract:
A non-coherent frequency shift keying detection scheme. The invention has been applied to the special case of capturing caller ID information when the voice-band modem is in the low power mode. The technique provides the capability for capturing and decoding enough of the caller ID information transmitted by the telephone company while the computer is in the sleep or low power mode, and upon awakening the computer can use this captured information to decode the actual caller ID information. Additionally, this invention automatically accommodates both the Bell 202 or V. 23 transmission standards by utilizing a threshold concept in which the time that has elapsed between the zero crossings of an FSK tone half cycle are measured. The elapsed times may be used as an indication of which FSK tone has been transmitted thus allowing capture of caller ID information. The bit output of the caller ID capture circuit is output for storage by RAM thus allowing use by the computer when it wakes up.

Abstract:
An aft facing step situated across the span of an airfoil. A chemical or thermal deicing or running wet anti-icing device is located in or on the airfoil upstream of the step, and causes water to run back towards the step. The step suddenly reduces the thickness of the airfoil chord section, which causes a disturbance in the boundary layer across the span of the airfoil downstream of the step. The aforementioned disturbance causes runback water to form droplets and be blown clear of the airfoil surface downstream of the step, thereby preventing ice from being formed on the airfoil surface downstream of the step.

Abstract:
A microwave crossover by which an electromagnetic wave can crossover from one waveguide to another waveguide is formed completely within a planar structure having two hybrid couplers arranged in tandem with output ports of the first coupler connected to input ports of the second coupler. Each coupler is formed of an electrically conductive housing and two electrically conducting bars disposed therein and insulated therefrom. The bars are disposed in a common plane and are equally spaced from top and bottom walls of the housing. A central portion of each bar is angled relative to end portions of the bars to permit a crossing over of the bars at the central portions thereof. Each of the central portions is formed with a notch which engages with the notch of the other bar while maintaining a gap therefrom, the notches permitting the crossover to occur in the foregoing plane. Ends of the bars protrude through openings in the housing in the form of coaxial transmission lines. The crossing of the bars has the effect of a twist of central conductors of the coaxial lines resulting in a relocation of the ports of the coupler such that the two input ports are on an input side of the coupler, and two output ports are on an output side of the coupler.
Effecient Hybrid Electronical And Mechanical Control Beam Poting Vehicle Antenna For Satellite Communication
A highly efficient electronical and mechanical beam pointing vehicle antenna is disclosed. The structure is designed for a vehicle to maintain continued communication with a satellite while the vehicle is in motion. The structure is comprised of a group of left and right hand circularly polarized elements which are located and fixed to the center of the antenna structure. These feed elements are stacked and are electronically phased to obtain the elevation pointing. The feeds are wrapped around by a vane type polarizer which is designed to provide simultaneous operation of left and right hand circularly polarized signals and the radiation of the feed elements are symmetrically radiated over the entire 360 degree horizontal field of view. A very light weight mechanical driven parabolic cylindrical reflector, revolving around the feed assembly, is implemented to provide the 360 degrees azimuth coverage. The number of feed elements and the size of the parabolic cylindrical reflector are selected to satisfy the gain and beam performance needs. The parabolic cylindrical reflector and the symmetrical radiating feed elements are configured to help simplify the implementation of a beam pointing antenna to be placed on a moving vehicle. The design is configured for X-Band operation. However, the design and construction of the apparatus is applicable to other frequencies as well.
