A trocar cleaning device includes a connecting rod having a first end and a second end. A first sponge is coupled to the first end of the connecting rod, and a second sponge is coupled to the second end of the connecting rod. An X-ray detectable element is coupled to at least one of the connecting rod, the first sponge, and the second sponge.
Control System And Apparatus Utilizing Signals Originating In The Periauricular Neuromuscular System
Loosing the ability to interact with one's environment can be devastating. The invention enables a person to control the real or virtual action or movement of an output device in from one to three dimensions through the use of at least one electrical sensor implanted beneath the skin or as a part of a headset on either one side or on both sides of the person's head in electrical communication with a vestigial periauricular nerve or muscle. Each sensor communicates through a selected channel to transmit information preferably in digital form to an output device designating an action to be taken or the position of a target location for enabling the output device to perform the action or to move toward or to a target location through real or virtual space. At least one and preferably up to four sensors are located on each side of the head.
Control System And Apparatus Utilizing Signals Originating In The Periauricular Neuromuscular System
The invention enables a person to control the real or virtual action or movement of an output device in from one to three dimensions through the use of at least one electrical sensor which can either be implanted beneath the skin or placed on the surface of the skin as a part of a headset on either one side or if more than one sensor is used on both sides of a person's head in electrical communication with a vestigial periauricular nerve or muscle. Each sensor then communicates through a selected channel to transmit information preferably in digital form to an output device designating an action to be taken or the position of a target location for enabling the output device to perform the action or to move toward or to a target location through real or virtual space. At least one and preferably up to four sensors are located on each side of the head. The invention also provides a new method for enabling an individual to actuate or control an output device by first placing an electrical sensor on at least one side of the head in electrical communication with a vestigial periauricular nerve or muscle, then using a signal provided by the sensor for transmitting information designating an action to be performed or to move the device toward or to the target in real or virtual space.
Electrodes Adapted For Transmitting Or Measuring Voltages Through Hair
An electrode that functions alone, in clusters or arrays can be used to measure and/or deliver voltages through skin covered with hair by achieving reliable skin contact. In one form, a composite metal electrode has several raised points capable of passing through hair to contact the skin directly between hairs. Electrode points are distributed evenly over a flat circular or curved base to create a composite electrode or cluster in which all electrode points electrically couple to one another and to an output device. In another form of the invention, each electrode point is connected by a separate conductor wire to a selector that evaluates the signal during use and determines which of the electrode points are to be coupled to an output device.

Abstract:
The invention relates generally to sterile packaging kit of components to be used to clean an area of a patient's skin, and more particularly to a sterile kit for cleaning a patient's skin area in the surgical field, following a surgical procedure. The kit, in its most basic form, comprises an outer envelope containing at least one dry towel and at least one wetted towel in its own pouch, separated from the dry towel. The kit may further include a heating element which efficiently transfers heat to the wetted towel. The cleaning kit may also provide sterile bandages for use in covering closed surgical incisions, after postop cleaning of the skin the surgical field, using the wetted and dry towel of the kit.

Abstract:
A Laparoscopic Visualization System comprising a sterile, self-contained, disposable apparatus used in medical procedures for heating and applying an anti-fog solution to the distal end of laparoscopes or surgical devices is presented. It additionally serves as an endoscopic lens protector and cleaner. An efficient heating and narrow range temperature control mechanism is used in combination with an anti-fog solution to provide clear visualization through a distal lens of the surgical device inserted into the system. The configuration prevents the anti-fog solution from spilling out of the system and is designed to also be used as a holder for the surgical scope, protecting the distal lens from impact with a shock absorbent outer shell, prior to, during, and after a medical procedure.
