Bets mount on second RBA cash rate cut in two months
Nor could external factors be ignored in the RBA's final deliberations, UBS economist Scott Haslem said. He argues that the recent flurry of monetary easing worldwide had worked against the RBA's attempts to get the Aussie to more closely reflect the country's deteriorating terms of trade.
"A few things have happened over the last few months that has changed the outlook a lot. The global headwinds facing the Australian economy intensified via lower commodity prices and patchy non-U.S. growth so the global outlook isn't as good," said Scott Haslem, chief economist at UBS.
"I certainly think the Australian dollar is going to be somewhere between a stronger US dollar and a weaker euro and yen. It is unlikely it will underperform the yen and the euro unless Chinese data disappoints," said UBS chief economist Scott Haslem.
