Abstract:

A novel approach to mitral or tricuspid valve repair involves the performance of an edge-to-edge fastening/securing of opposing heart valve leaflets through a catheter entering the heart. Thus, a device is introduced including a leaflet fastener applicator through a cardiac catheter or other suitable catheter. The leaflet fastener applicator and cardiac catheter can be formed into a kit. A gripper can be used to hold the heart valve leaflets while they are fastened.

The projections of the first line and second line are arranged to overlap at an intersection line oriented at a nominal location such that when the surface is oriented at the nominal location, the intersection line appears on the surface. As the location of the surface deviates from the nominal location, the first line and second line as projected upon the surface move away from one another. The distance between the lines may be used to calculate the deviation from the nominal location. The deviation calculated may be compared to a predetermined maximum allowable deviation.

Abstract:

The invention provides a sewing cuff assembly for mounting to the body of a heart valve prosthesis. The sewing cuff assembly comprises a resiliently deformed spring for exerting a force directed toward the orifice structure. When a torque is applied to the valve, the force results in a rotation-resisting torque sufficient to resist rotation during normal operation of the valve after implantation but low enough to permit assisted rotation, as during surgery.
