Abstract:
A rotor structure is provided to block direct axis flux from a stator armature without reducing the main magnetizing flux from permanent magnet inside the rotor. For example, a rotor may be provided including a magnet and a non-magnetic region located radially between the magnet and an edge of the rotor.

Abstract:
An electric machine includes a plurality of teeth separated by a plurality of slots positioned on an armature of the electric machine. Each of the teeth may include at least one bifurcation. A plurality of magnets may be arranged on a main field of the electric machine to form an axial array group. The magnets in the axial array group may be arranged in the main field with respect to each other to create a multi-stepped arrangement having a predetermined step angle. The step angle is determined based on the positioning of the bifurcations and the slots.

Abstract:
A method of inserting a winding into a stator having skewed slots formed on an inside diameter of a stator lamination includes forming a conductor having a plurality of slot segments, loading the conductor into a plurality of skewed slot elements of a linear cartridge having a first end, a second end, and a linear axis connecting the first end and the second end, the plurality of skewed slot elements being angled relative to the linear axis, transferring the conductor from the linear cartridge to a plurality of skewed slot members formed in an outside diameter of a rotary cartridge, inserting the rotary cartridge into the inside diameter of the stator lamination, and shifting the conductor from the rotary cartridge into the skewed slots of the stator.

International Classification:

Abstract:
An electric machine including a stator and rotor. The rotor has a core wherein each pole includes first and second axially extending magnet slots positioned in an outwardly opening V-shape. Permanent magnets are positioned in the magnet slots. The magnet slots define first and second opposing major edges wherein the first major edge is disposed nearer the outer radial perimeter of the rotor core. First and second opposing minor edges extend between the major edges and the first minor edge is disposed nearer the outer radial perimeter. The first and second slots are reflectively symmetrical with one symmetrical aberration. The symmetrical aberration being formed by an axially extending non-symmetric gap defined by the first major edge of the second magnet slot proximate the first minor edge. Demagnetization may be reduced by operating the machine with the second magnet slot trailing the first magnet slot during rotation of the rotor.

Abstract:
A rotor or stator hub for an electric machine includes a plurality of magnets arranged in a predetermined same pattern on a plurality of uniformly sized carrier plates. A plurality of permanent magnets are uniformly mounted on each of the carrier plates proximate a first edge of the carrier plate and spaced away from a second edge of the carrier plate. The carrier plates may be mounted on a rotor or stator hub in a predetermined configuration to create a plurality of axial array groups.

Abstract:
Exemplary embodiments advantageously enable use of the structure of an interior magnet machine to emulate the function of a synchronous reluctance machine. In exemplary embodiments, a rotor for an electric machine, comprises a first magnet, a second magnet, a first non-magnetic region located between a first end of the first magnet and a second end of the second magnet, the first non-magnetic region having a first magnetic permeability value, a second non-magnetic region located radially between the first magnet and an edge of the rotor, the second non-magnetic region having a second magnetic permeability value, the second magnetic permeability value being relatively lower than the first magnetic permeability value, and an intrusion extending radially from an edge of the rotor and into the first non-magnetic region. An azimuthal width of one of the non-magnetic regions is larger than the azimuthal width of the other non-magnetic region. In exemplary embodiments, the intrusion has at least one magnetic portion. In exemplary embodiments, the intrusion also has at least one non-magnetic portion. The intrusion could be completely non-magnetic, partially magnetic, or completely magnetic. The intrusion could be multi-segmented.
